Question on Air Filter for Off-road
Is it better to oil the pre-filter? Or leave the pre-filter dry?
Comments appreciated. Thanks. |
i oil my prefilter as well as the filter.

oil the regular filter, but never the pre-filter.

I have my air filter oiled but do not oil my prefilter because if you do oil it, it will be useless after 1 run because it will be filled with dust. What I do is oil my inner filter, run prefilter dry, then if track is dusty wrap prefilter with a ace bandage wrap. After 2-3 heats I will throw the bandage away and apply a new one for the main. Works really well.

wd40 it or use brake cleaner, not heavy though. Good luck!!

I like to run the prefilter dry and change it out if needed during dusty conditions. If you use oil on the prefilter it tends to clog up at the surface defeating its intended purpose. Its got "pre" in the name for a reason.

Yes makes perfect sense now. I will leave it dry.

Oil on the filter
No oil on the prefilter Wrap it all up with athletic wrap (2-3 wraps around) = Filter wil stay clean a lot longer! http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3.../AthleticWrap/ |
I oil all and then change whole set-up after each heat. Tried the bandage wrap and my engine couldn't breathe and ran too hot. All this oil makes my engines very happy.:tire::):):tire:
