washer behind the flywheel collet

someone told me to put a washer behind the collet because it helps keep the front bearing from going bad......any truth? wha is ur opinion.

I usually run one washer there because it helps with clearance once the flywheel is tightened on. On .12 and .15 motors its almost required to get both clearance and a tight fit on the collet but not always on bigger ones.

There may be some truth in that, but I don't know for sure. Usually I will use a washer behind the collet to center the flywheel if its off a bit in the chassis and doesn't line up the way I like. Preferance I guess.

as long as you are using the collet that comes with your motor and has the same diameter as the inner on the bearing it is fine not to use a washer.

The collet closes up and only pushes on the inner of the bearing just like a washer. using a washer doesn't spread the load out when tightening the flywheel on beacause you are only pushing on the bearing inner anyway...

I have confirmed this with boca also and mugen...

The washer as mentioned is only for spacing out the flywheel from the crank case.
