Default Carpet on the tracks?

I race at a track that is ALL dirt. I've noticed on here that some tracks have carpet on the landing ramps it looks like. I'm just curious to why you would put carpet there? And why is it only on the landing ramps? Thanks i was just curious (actually looking to build my own track, but thats later LOL)

Using carpet on jump faces could be done for a few reasons depending on where the track is and what the average weather is at that location. In the western US, Nv. to be exact the dirt is not the best and in the high desert not much will hold moisture for very long in the summer. The carpet on the jumps has so far been the ticket to help keep the jumps together and have plenty of traction. We did trun the carpet upside down to keep the carpet fibers from catching on the cars. So far it is working, but we'll see as the saeson moves along and gets towards the end wether or not it can stay intact for a season or more.
