AMBrc Monopoly...

And pdmustgt, what enticed you to pay 30 bucks more for an AMB rather than an MRT? Theyre smaller, have a cool blue LED(or any color you want), and theyre not red!

we had a group of us order ten last year and we sold them for $75 i believe..

I think forums are here to vent sometimes and what better subject not to vent about. Yeah it sucks, not much we can do at this point but pray to the R/C gods. I kinda think they are well worth the money though. One less thing to worry about on race day. We all have enough other BS to worry about. Batteries charged and such. Many of you have good points. My 2 pennies.

This is from AMB this morning:
AMBrc PT's are $105 each, $95 when you order 5 or more, and $90 when you order 20 or more.
Also, now through July 18th, when you order 20, you get 1 free, and when you order 40, you get 3 free.
I still think the MRT's are better deal.

Either they jacked the price since a group of us ordered a batch last winter, or maybe the lhs that ordered them for us didn't charge their cut. I just know we paid 80 each.

I guess its human nature to gripe over the price of an item that you take for granted after purchase and installation, that can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle, that the long term failure rate has not been determined because they last so long.................but will gladly pay over $100 for tires, etc. that might last 1 weekend, that might give a competitive advantage, that might.....................
Solution, think of the transponder as a performance enhancement devise. Mount it at the very front so next time you are in one of those one in a thousand races where 2 of you cross the line at the same time yours counts first.

MRT does have a 10+ discount. The total comes to $701.00 shipped for 10. Anyone interested in getting a group buy together and getting some PT's for 70 bucks?

I disagree, amb makes transponder's for a bunch of racing sports, so there is no need for them to have jacked up the price as hard as they did, that's why you have companies cloning them cheaper, and in turn, amb losses money, and business, if they were smart, they would sell you one at say $85, then offer cloned ones for $50-60 a shot..

Just like of title of the thread states, its a monopoly. When you have little or no competition you can name your own price. With everything else, the market and the competitors dictate the price. People just have a hard time paying $105 for such a passive little device that they know has had the price inflated substantially.

Yeah, and people can get together with their buddies and order AMBs 10 at a time and get them for 80 bucks a pop.
I haven't been able to buy them at that price for a couple years!
The MRT's are an excellent alternative!
