Questions?? Lipo receiver pack/regulator question

My room-mate was having problems with a new lipo receiver pack he was trying out today at the track, and it really didn't make sense to me. Maybe somebody has had some experience with these?

He was trying out this lipo pack
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/13161

with this regulator
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16550

It would run great till halfway through the heat then it would start glitching. With the Losi pack it works just fine? The only problem being is the Losi pack is big and hardly fits in the battery box. So he was trying the smaller one out. The ONLY difference is that the smaller pack is a 4C battery and the Losi one is a 2C pack and both are 7.4 volts. Any ideas out there? Cause I have 2 more on the way that I bought on ebay...

Thanks!
Chris

I run that same battery and voltage regulator in my buggy and not one issue. Not sure what would be causing that unless the plug fits loose, or a wire has been pinched, something like that. It is nice to be able to race all day and not have to worry about the rx pack going dead though.

Is it absolutely a must to run the regulator?

I would say the pack may have a bad cell, or loose cell. I know people using a lipo without the regulator and have not damaged any servo's.

i wouldn`t run the car without a regulator. there are receivers and servos that can be run without one but if yours isn`t made for 7.4 V you could damage some things.
i read that spectrum receivers and sanwa (airtronics) servos can take the 7.4 V. futaba servos will not take it and so i would assume that there receivers will have problems with the extra voltage too.

How far does the regulator drop it down? I just put a losi lipo, regulator, JR 9100t and 9100s on my spectrum dx3r. I obviously spent a brick to try and get the best performance, but I'm wondering how much the regulator is choking me.

I had the same issue about a month back. I was told the problem lies with the 6 volt regulator. Here is a link to a thread I sarted when I was having the same issues. Read TonyScrews post it will ansewr your questions.

It depends on how the reg. is built. I have reg's that drop the voltage to 6.0V and others that drop the voltage to 6.5V, 7.0V. Just depends on the manufacturer.

Did you get the Losi regulator with the switch in-line? That switch is crap, if so wire in a better switch, or no switch. Don't know if that could be the problem, but anything's possible.

Got the regulator without switch...

I am going to try one of the 2 that are coming, if the same thing happens I try a different regulator, if it works then the 1st pack must be defective and will return it..

Thanks all!

Default diode

Guys, if all you need to drop your voltage is by 1 volt install a diode on the hot side of the wire. Radio Shack has a 1N4001 diode for only about a buck and drops the voltage 1 volt (I think it's 1 volt, it'll say on the package). If you need more find a diode rated for higher volt drop. The stripe points towards the receiver if you're doing this.
