Default Dooh! Busted Engine!

Hi guys. Just got me a Cen Matrix RTR and went about breaking in the engine. Done something really stupid, I switched on the radio but I never checked to see if the throttle was adjusted properly. When I started the engine it revved up about half throttle. After a few seconds it stopped. Seized Took it apart to find big end of connecting rod split and a few chunks gone out of the bottom of the piston.

My question: is the most probable cause of damage due to the throttle being open half way? Or could it be a faulty engine?

Thanks guys

U mean planet! No it was first tank, first start! Wheels were off the ground but it didn't go to full throttle.

It could have hydro locked but I doubt it. Prolly metal debris in the case or defective rod.

The only thing I can think of other than a manufacturing defect would be if the needles were somehow set way too lean and with that, that the engine would have still been too cold: insufficient lube + resistance from a cold mill/sleeve could have caused the rod to pop.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just wondering, are Cen a good brand? I guess it will be covered by the warranty as long as I don't mention anything about the throttle?

Well an engine not broken in has tons of pinch in it. So that could be the reason, and half throttle is as good as full throttle when the wheels are off the ground. I don't see a rod bushing in there, is there a copper looking tube in the crankcase anywhere? CEN should be a good vehicle, they've been around awhile.

There was loads of metal filings. Some were copper so I guess that was the rod bushing.

Just to give ye an update, brought model back to shop and they said those engines were giving trouble. I left the model there to have a new engine fitted and run in. Called back a few days later and they told me that they decided not to put the .26 engine in it as they were giving too much trouble. Waiting to talk to manager now to see what the story is.

Said something about putting a .28 engine in it.
