IF you look at the times, the stories don't add up....

Ex buggy a main went 67 laps in 45 mins. Tony went 30 laps in 30 mins.
The pros did not run twice as long but did run more than twice as many
laps. I think that Tony's Sponsorships and skill level do warrant running
with the big boys but in this case the time sheets show the facts. He was
fine to run in sportsman based on the times.

I am an innocent bystander in Indiana but that was the first thing I saw
when reading this. The laptimes don't add up.... everyone can run a hero lap here and there but the true pros can do the same lap for 45 mins over and over....

Default Sandbaggers

I went ahead and gave some companies my .02 as to how thier "sponsored drivers" represented thier companies. Oh and my 15 year old step-son ran in the pro class because that's what he is in life, a pro at bieng a real man not some cheating little girl who gets scared of the big bad racers. I had a great time watching him try to win in Truggy in only his second truggy race ever and he made the "A". Then in buggy he bumped from the "B" to the A and had battery issue's but still had the respect of his friends and competitors for doing what was right. I actually heard a lot of people complain that Tony P was racing sportsman and others too. It's just sad !!!!!
And as for doing whats right next year, you should just stay home. That would leave the racing for the true racers.

Actually he ran 42 laps and there were little kids trying to race, but they had to race against sandbaggers so they didn't have a chance.

thats fine if thats how you feel and i sure would have moved if i was asked to but i can do this for days if need be i have already offerd back everything that i left with what more do you want from me ?

To whom it may concern,

Let me start off by letting you know before the race even started this was discussed with the officials and it was not an issue that I was running in the sportsman class. I do not have a chassis sponsor of any kind and pay for everything I need excluding fuel. The sportsman class here and anywhere is filled with guys that have sponsors. I am pretty sure that is why it is not called the non sponsored driver class and if that is the case then state it that way. They do not call it novice class because then people would say ďman your too fast to run novice ď. Hence the name sportsman, a class designed to keep average guys in the sport. Guys like me you and 80% of all RC racers, guys who feel they donít stand a chance racing your Adam Drakes and your Mike Thrues all the way down to your JR Mitchís and Leon Macintoshís . I really donít know what the rules are in GA, but here in FL and according to ROAR the cut off to a sportsman class is a chassis sponsor.

Being sponsored does not make you a pro. Just means you are a marketing tool. Manufactures offer 50% deals to pretty much anyone. These companies loose nothing selling you product at the same cost they offer to the distributer, and they prosper by using you as a marketing tool to push product. Sponsored drivers are not pros but they are the guys who pay the bills for them.

In my opinion to change the prizes and payouts after a person wins a race is just wrong, if sponsored guys racing in the sportsman class was a problem this is something that should have been addressed after the first qualifier or at bare minimum before the mains not after itís over. Iím truly sorry that the local fast guys did not win, had they been just a little faster this would not even being discussed right now.

The sheets from the mains show the spread to be less than a minute between the drivers, in a 30 minute race this is normal. Less than one second a lap. None of the races were won by ridicules laps and or time. Itís truly absurd that this has become a bashing session just because of who won. I do not feel I was breaking any rules. I never even seen any rules, some of you are making it sound like it was all part of the master plan. Not one mention of my 11th place finish in sportsman truggy, why because no one cares. But god forbid an average guy wins and all hell breaks loose. Bending me over after 3 days of racing and winning 1 race is just wrong.

At this point the officials have already taken away the prizes that were promised, publicly embarrassed not only myself but Caster Racing in front of everyone at this event and now on this thread. Mike Mazza I would like to return this RTR buggy back to you or Caster Racing cause it was used to be malaises and was not intended for the winner of the sportsman class but was to be a door prize. Please feel free to call me at 407-908-4806 and give me your mailing address. I will be more than glad to cover the shipping just to make sure it get where it can be used for what it was intended for. Shane Keller the only thing left is this piece of plywood, here is the number again 407-908-4806 call me with your shipping address and you can give this the the same guy you gave the motor too.

Here are some pics. I hope you all enjoy them. I hate that all this bickering has to drag on. I guess when it comes to this there is always a pissing match somewhere. I did enjoy the race and wanted to come back next year, but after seeing all of this I think you guys can have it. If speed and ability have nothing to do with being sponsored, somebody please hook me up with some sponsors. I will glady run "pro"

Everybody has said what they think. Let's just focus on the fact it was a great race, we had a blast, and there will be a new rule next year that bumps you up if your too fast. This was truly a great event.

Tony probably was in the wrong class, but what about the guy that finished second, he wasnt far behind. Hopefully he wasnt the local guy.

By all this im hearing, basically the top 5-8 guys from sportsmans should have run pro.. WTF, you guys are cracked..I know tony, and yeah, he runs good, but me and him have good races, and i run maybe 4 races a year, so does that make me a pro to just because a hobby shop helps me out sometime?? The rules i have always heard, and seen enforced is chassis sponsor equalls pro.. rite or wrong, thats how ive always seen it.. Now, if Tony crushed everyone then i would say he was wrong, but he didnt, winning by 1 lap, or actually less as he may have gotten that last lap by only beating the guy behind him by 15 seconds and got past the line doesnt make him a sandbagger.. How well did he qualify?? what was the spread there in the A main set up?? if he was sooo Fast why didnt anyone say a word then.. People want to mana cause they got beat and he ran consistant. just because someones lap time can put them possibly in the mid pack of a B main in pro, doesnt make them pro dirvers.. I myself have more competition in the top 10 of sportsman then the back of the B of pro, cause the top sportsman guys are closer to each other and push each other more.. SO Bag Away Tony.. p.s. I will miss you in sportsman this year in the fsors series.... Jay..

From my understanding, ROAR states that you have to move up to Pro if you have or you get a chassis sponsorship. Any protest should have been before the mains. The times they ran were no faster during the mains then what they qualified at. So wheres the sandbagging, I could see it if they purposely ran slower times during the quals then picked it up during the mains. The RD should have reviewed the times before the start of the mains.

Its a BS statement to say that just because someone has a sponsor they should be required to run pro. Manufacturers take allot of things into consideration when they sponsor drivers. Just about every driver I know has some kind of sponsor.

I guess its just easier to change the rules after the fact just because the outcome wasn't what you wanted
