Engine sealing.
Does it really make a difference when you seal the backplate and carb with a sealent? If so what is a good brand to use?I see people doing this and just wondering if I should do it.I have an LST2 coming and wondering if I should seal it.Thanks.

Racers Choise "Air-Seal" is the best I've used. But its hard to find at time. Racers Edge makes one too, but when it drys it become very rubbery. Can be a little pain to clean off, when cleaning a motor. Or go to your local Auto parts store, and get Permatex "Ultra Black". It also a high temp RTV gasket sealer. All of them work great. Just the Air seal, drys the fastest, and is by far the easiest to clean off. Just remember a little sealant goes a long way.

Like Steve said, it's huge if you do have an air leak. The best thing about sealing the engine when it's new is that you don't have to clean it before taking it apart and you don't have to worry about leaks right from the get go.

Nothing Permatex or RTV related will work on Nitro.....the only stuff that is actually Nitro Proof is the Racer's edge stuff already mentioned...but the Original Product is Three Bond 1211....the Racer's edge smells Identical to 1211...and the 1211 is a little stretchier and easy to apply....all sealant is a pain to remove..but using the Right sealant is 10000X more important....and Ill 2nd what Steve Walters said..."I spend too much time and money racing to even take a chance."...its Just Not worth it.

Stupid question-whats the technique used for sealing the carb and back plate? Do you smear this stuff around when everything is mounted or do you take the back plate and carb off?

The best stuff I have ever used is called "GM Gasketmaker" from GM !
IT comes in a little red tube and works PERFECT! What the stuff is ,is an anerobic sealer , and is impervioius to nitro or any other form of fuel for that matter. best of all it will never really harden up on you so it cleans up nicely.

Put a blob in a small container...then SOAK it in Nitro...see what happens to ur precious RTV....IT MELTS...cuz its not NItro Proof...Trust me it may appear sealed...but ANY leakage and the bond has been broken....Ive seeen SOO many LEAKY RTV sealed motor's its not even funny....1211 or Racer's edge is the ONLY Stuff ill trust....Ive heard of the GM stuff and YamaLube that yamaha tech's use on there motor's......cheesecake thats a decent write up but with the WRONG Sealant....I wish that thread never existed so someone could do a Proper version with the Right sealant.
