bro i so wish i could help you. i hate having probs with these cars. now if you cant get it to idle lean out your low speed needle (the one one the side of the carb either where the slider is or on the other side) 1/ of a turn at a time. your probably loading up to much fuel too quick and it floods. make sure your idle needle is open about 1-2 mm. try it again do lose patience.

here are a few suggestions I would do. First if you know the stock settings I would put it all back to stock. If not then maybe on the Traxxas site they have the stock settings. What I mean by stock is for instance, on my engine stock is 3.5 turns out on High and 5 turns out on bottom (lowend). It is good to know because stock settings are always rich enough to not hurt the engine. get your idle screw set by getting around a half to 1mm space in the carb when throttle is fully closed. Then try and start it. You may have to lean on the highend needle some to get it to run but only make small turns. Most guys treat the needles like a clock. 12 hours full rotation. and in tuning moving an hour or 2 at a time is plenty. I know it is a traxxas engine but if you go to RBconcepts website they have a forum and good info on there as well that could help you. Another good piece of info to remember is the high end needle is the main needle. so if you lean it out you also lean the bottom out. same if you richen it you richen the bottom. So make adjustments to the top before the bottom. Goodluck

hi
you sound as if you are having a bit of trouble your best bet would be to take it to your local hobby shop and dont keep playing with stuff until you feel confident because you are better to ask wat feels like to you a stupid question than make a stupid mistake
Dont take this as an offense just want to see you get the best out of the hobbie

Well after rebuilding the entire truck I figured out that the whole top end is wasted. Im bringing it to my local shop tomorrow to have them rebuild it and tune it.

learn how to do it yourself. its better for you and your car. when other people touch you car you dont really know what they did to it. kno one should kno your rc better than you.

he is new to the sport and still has much to learn and hopefully the hobby shop should run the car while he is there to show him what to do and what no to do.

When I brought it to my LHS they determined that the top end was fine but it was horribly out of tune. I drove the truck for a few days but havent been happy with the power so I started playing with the jets but the throttle response still sucked. Last week i watched a video on rebuilding the motor so I figured I would have a look on the inside as I have all the parts to rebuind it. When I pulled the head I noticed it had three head spacers on it. After removing two to raise the compression I put it back together and HOLY SHIT. After alittle tuning this thing is amazing. I have a question though Im running 16% would the truck have more power and run better if I ran 20% in it?

yes it would. 20% is ideal for rtr cars IMO. i like to run 20% just for bashing around. would really recomend it bro

I am glad you got it working. We have all been there before. When I started out in this hobby a couple of years ago, I was so frustrated with breaking in and tuning an engine that I was really close to selling my buggy. I stuck with it and learned. Keep at it and you will learn how to tune and set-up your car properly. Just remember, be pacient. Making small adjustments is always better. Good luck.

I recommend using 20% nitro. I personally use 30% but if you go higher in nitro content you have to make sure your engine is shimmed properly.

I believe most engines are shimmed to run at least 20%.

you do need to shim .12's and .15's....all others are fine to run 30% with no extra shims....

I took two shims out leaving one and the engine runs a whole lot better. I assume I would have to add shims if I started running 20%?
