How do I replace the front and rear main bearings?
RC Tech, I have Novarossi 21-5k that I want to replace the front and rear bearings in and I have read various methods for doing this, but don't know the best way to go about it...can I get some input from the collective on this process, the best way to do it, is it worth upgrading to ceramic bearings...give me your thoughts. Thanks everyone for your input!

Front bearing is pretty easy just heat it up a little with a heat gun and pop it out the rear one is the tricky one.

I did the same thing to my 21-5k not too long ago.
Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees and put the engine in for about 10 minutes. The front bearing will fall right now and the rear should come loose really easy now as well. The only problem is to get the rear bearing actually out of the crankcase. I ended up putting the crankcase in the freezer overnight and I was able to get the rear bearing actually out of the case.
I hope that helps.

Bearing Extractor 11.5/12.0/13.0/14.0/14.2
Reference : Designation :
01400-00001 Bearing Extractor 11.5/12.0/13.0/14.0/14.2
Available since: 05/08/2006
Gain time and efficiency while taking off the main bearing of your racing engine with this bearing extractor ! So far you had to heat the crankcase and force it a bit to extract the bearing. As of now you will only have to simply use this brand new tool into the crankcase. The special plier available in various diameters will block the bearing. Then squeeze the key and take off the bearing only by screwing the RB gold orange handle. It is very easy-to-use and with no risk of damaging the bearing or the crankcase. have you tried the new 14.5x26mm bearing from tko yet ?? tried to fit one in a plus 2 367 case today and the bearings outer dia. is just a couple microns too big ! the outer race actually squished the ceramic balls to the point of making the bearing hard to roll = bad the boca stainless bearing went into the case without issue by the way , so hopefully the issue will be addressed as i really want to find a good ceramic bearing for my plus engines
and as far as changing bearings , if you dont know what you are doing it is a good idea to either send it to somebody who is well practiced at it or find someone you know locally that is good at it and pay attention
i can do it for 15 $ service fee +bearing cost and shipping , and yes i am very good at engine service

Mugenb46, these are the tko bearings I am going to go back with for my 21-5k
-"NEW" 07 TKO Ceramic Front Crank Bearing
[CB-607C-2RS]
- TKO New 2008 Ceramic Rear Crank Bearing 14.5 x 26 x 6
[CB-MR26145]
Are these the ones you used? Also, should I replace the conrod as I now have three gallons on the motor? If fills great but the popular consensus seems to be that you replace the con rod at three gallons just to avoid any kind of catastrophic failure? Thanks everyone for the input!

Houston, I recently picked up the 5K myself, for a very good deal . Anyway, Ive been doing a LOT of research on it since. You're not the first I have heard with the TKO bearing size issue. Ultimately I don't know if there is an issue...BUT Peter truly is a stand up guy and will take care of you. Drop him a line
