I was tearing down recently both a new engine and a used engine. I have what might seem like a strange question.

How do you remove the head button from the sleeve?

Both of the engines I tore down had the button "stuck" to the sleeve. I would assume you can just pull them apart, but it did not work. I was afraid to damage one of the parts if I pryed them apart.

Have had a lot of engines and never had that happen. So when you pushed up on the piston and raised the sleeve the button was attached to the top of the sleeve and will not come off ? What kind of engine ?

Should not do any harm tapping it apart, if that does not work, heat it up in an oven like when you are changing a bearing, the pieces should seperate easily then with a light tap. If that does not work I don't know what to tell you.

spray wd-40 on it and get a flat head screw driver and dry to pry it apart

My friends RB TM928 was also difficult to remove. We use a large adjustable, clamp the button head and twist it out slowly.

If you can get the liner out of the case with the button attached, put it an the freezer for 10 minutes... the button should shink more than the liner and you should be able to twist them apart.

Line up the notch in the sleeve with the corresponding part in the case where the sleeve slides in. Push it all the way in like your assembling the engine. When you are sure that the sleeve is all the way in, put a small hex driver in the button and twist the button off the sleeve or you can grab it carefully from the outside edges w/ some plastic tipped pliers or a rag & plier combo and twist it off.

is your piston pushed up past the exhaust port? if so it could be creating a suction, and that would make it hard to get it off. just rotate the piston down to the bottom of it's rotation, and it should come off.

if not, I'm with the oven method!

Keep the sleeve installed on the motor, make sure it is locked in place. There's a little notch on top of the sleeve that goes on a little pin on the case.

Leave the glow plug installed.

Slowly twist off clockwise using your glow plug wrench to get the button out.

GHETTOTEACHER

If you have a heat gun, that will make removing the button easier.

Brian if you cant get it I will be able to help you this friday. (Im assuming this is ohio brian?) I have had that problem with v-specs in the past just takes some wd-40 and very very careful prying with plyers and a rag

Hey Ben, how is it going? I will use the info that I have learned on here to remove it. I was trying to add an extra shim on my WS7II to run 30%. I will be running the WS7II tomorrow instead of the Nova 3 port.
