Default OS .18 in an RC8 - questions

So I want to run a .18 in my RC8.

I know that several of the buggy nationals racers ran the .18 in qualifying, but have been unable to locate any information on what engine etc.

First: The engine mount, I was told it would require a special engine mount to run an .18. Who manufactures one for the RC8?

Second: Pipe and Header would likely need to be different due to the reduced flow that a .18 engine pushes through, what is a good match for an OS .18?

any information is appreciated, all of the threads on RCTech on this are dead ends.

May I ask why you would put a .18 engine in a rc8?

Alot of the .21's out today are very overpowered. For the average club racer, an .18 could be faster around trhe track than the big blocks.

Yeah I heard about a guy running an .18 in his buggy at the rc pro races... Plenty of power but incredible fuel economy compared to a .21... Dont know how he did though...

I think you could get the stock motor mount to work...maybe haf to drill a hole or two, noone makes a specific mount for that

OS makes a pipe for small blocks that would be alot better than a .21 pipe IMO, even most REVO pipes would fit nice

Also clutch parts may have to swapped, I dont know if the .18 has the same crank diameter as a .21 where the collet goes on

I'm thinking of doing the same thing this summer to experiment with.... its not a new idea... I know a few have ran them at the worlds and at the nitro challenge this year, it keeps popping up in pics from time to time so it must work well.

Hell yeah.. An .18 has the same crank.. I use a losi 4 shoe clutch on my .18 in the crt .5... The carb is a slide carb so that will work just fine in an 1/8th scale... Try the stock motor mount or get a quick change one that can be mounted forward or back... As for a pipe, a regular one might work so give it a try...

No doubt. If I could save 10 to 15 seconds (easily given our pit setup at Boulder City Raceway, with 12 foot elevation change and speed bmps at the entrance and exit) It would be worth it. I currently have my OS Speed .21 turned down on the radio and fairly lean to make good fuel economy, with a .18 I might break into the 10-11 minute run mark, which would mean full qualifiers without a fuel stop. I wouldn't mind tearing up .18's because they are cheap.

Give this guy the RCTech member of the year award! Always wondered why 1/8 scale buggy drivers were using 21-28 high powered engines for medium to small scale tracks but was to afraid to ask why. Your out of the box thinking could really start something.
I can see it know......"Best .18 for my 1/8 buggy" thread.

Ok, but you will be lacking the low end grunt. Why not just go with the OS .21vg and not deal with the hastles. I got 11 minutes on a tank of fuel when I had one in my truggy.

I run one of these but an older version for indoor. Perfect for smaller tracks. I actually went to a 15 clutchbell for a little more bottom. And very cheap. Mines lasted quite well and is easy to tune. A little home porting on the sleeve and I get just under 15 minutes on a tank at normal temps. Took the tank plug out of my rc8 and I don't run an external fuel filter.

Could use small carb restrictors too to help out fuel economy.

In my OS SPEED .21 I run the 7mm restrictor currently. I can stretch about 7.5 minutes on a ROAR legal 125cc tank. (they tech tank capacity here). if I could go 10:30 it would be worth doing, assuming it didn't kill my laptimes (more than 1 second slower appx to break even)

when i want to turn it down the Picco .21 sport... 12+ minutes, low end grunt enough...

Testing yesterday we were getting 11.30 out of a Nova 5 port Turbo plug and the things are flying.

Going to see what we can get my RB doing with a restricter and a few tricks.

A .18 is an interesting idea, i would like to see it... if it went 15 minutes that would be real interesting.
