Default Engine Ports?

kind of a noob question about engine ports

what are the main differences with more ports in an engine?
I'm guessing that more ports make it faster? perform better?
like a 3 vs a 5 vs an 8 port engine?

there are also those added ports such as 5+2 port engines.

please explain
thx

Less ports generaly have more bottom end grunt.
Good for short technical tracks.

More ports generaly have better top end but less bottom end.
Good for high speed longer tracks.

Booster ports act like having more ports but are designed to help increase intake charge on the down stroke.

Generaly most motors perform alot better all round with some minor porting work.

Heres a short video of my 3 Port which is modified and running very rich in 37 degree heat, as you can see even tho its fat and a hot day and only a 3 port it still has major balls down the straight with great revs. It will keep up with any 7 port easy if not blow it away.

When i run it a bit leaner it revs even harder but was a hot day so didnt want to kill it.

HOLY CRAP!!!! What kind of surface is that? You must be using like 100wt oil or something. J/K. Looks like a real rough surface though.
