Steering Servo Oscillating

Steering Servo Oscillating
I noticed the other day that my steering servo (ACE DS1015) is oscillating, even when the engine is not running. I have seen this happen to the rebranded AE steering servo as well. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I just posted my results to this in the Electronics Thread. For me the oscillating was due to the plastic boss molded into the top half of the servo case. The boss was hammered by a hard impact (crashing). Anyways, the servo couldn't find center because the center shaft and gear were moving around about 1/16" and therefore the servo motor couldn't stay centered.
Or there is a stripped gear possibly.
I suggest to remove the four screws off the top of your case. Look at the gears and the inside of the top case. See if there is anything odd shaped or worn out/broken. I thought I would send mine in for repair too. My buddy decided we needed to open it up and see if there were stripped gears. Nope! Just a wollered out hole in the top of the case.

what airtronics servo do you have? if its a digital model, they do have sort of a humming sound all the time, some louder than others.. as for re-centering problems, welcome to the wonderful world of airtronics, lol! i have airtronics servos also. that used to be all i would run.. but theyre not as good as they used to be for some reason? ill be switching to JR or futaba soon enough...

If it helps, my KO Propo Digital FET steering servo also makes a sort of humming sound at times, but it does move ok and go back to center ok...
Make sure there isn't any binding or rubbing in any of the steering moving parts....

Hey guys, your starting to scare me. I just installed new new XP1015 in my car. I don't have an oscillating issues and hope that I don't get one.
I do have a buzzing sound which I understand to be normal. I heard a digital KO servo buzzing that was so loud it almost drowned out the engine. The XP buzz, but barely noticeable.
Love the power and speed of the 1015s, hope I don't encounter any issues. I had a JR590 that had trouble centering, but just trashed it and installed another one.

have had a couple of the ace servos do that, due to the grease drying out on the gears and because of the backlash on the gears the servo starts hunting for centre,a dab of grease on the gears and it damps it all down, give it a try

That plastic gear is actually a good thing. It is a sacrificial gear that is easy and inexpensive to replace should something unforseen happen to the servo.
