Default my V-Spec blew up

yup, just got home from racing. Was doing well until it flamed out and could not be restarted. Took it to the pits and pulled the motor. The rod is bent and where it connects to the crank was shattered, and all the crap went through the engine. The motor was heat cycled, only has 1.5 gallons on it, and never been over 260*. I take car of my stuff and it did not over rev. I am not sure what year model it is, but it has the silver backplate. Completely stock. Cannot figure out why and how this could have happened.

I will be calling OS tomorrow, hopefully they can help. I have not looked at parts for it yet but I am guessing it would not be worth it to rebuild it. very disappointed at the least what a shame.

Exact thing happened to mine 1.5 gallons also. I call OS and they said "oh ya we will help you out no problem" I get an email that says they can replace the motor for $200 they keep your old motor. And if you don't want to exchange it they charge you $15 to send back your broken motor.

Any engine can break a rod if overevved or run lean.
I had two v-specs one had well over 12gallons on same rod and sleeve/piston with no problems at all...it run around 230-240F on good weather and around 190-200 on cold ambient temperature and never run on parking lots or places that would stress the engine from constant high revs.

Have you checked the rod for any noticeable play after break in?
Also the main bearing might have been shot and caused that!!

general rule of thumb is change out the bearings ASAP. Break the motor in. check for any rod play if there is any then replace the rod after breakin. Vspec rods are pretty cheap so if you want it to be always in tip top shape then just change the rod every season.

how are the TKO ceramics? I can get a rod and a rear bearing for $50~ at amain. Unfortunately the rod is out of stock. I would far rather do that then send it in to OS.

Mabey I got a bad one, but this is BS.

I had an issue with 2 of my Vspecs. O.S. gave me no problem replacing the engines when they are new but with any time on them of course they want you to pay. Now Im having a problem with one of them that has a little over a gallon. It fires runs well for about a minute them stalls. I checked replaced the clutch shoes, new plug, checked carb for leaks, bearings seem fine, I dont know???? Its a shame cause these motors are great when they are tuned right and everything goes well but if not, they are a pain in the #$$. Real finicky...

The damage looks like crankpin lack of lube. The rod bushing seized to the crankpin and snapped off. Generally happens with low oil content fuel or running HSN too lean on high rev for extended time.

I run and work on V-specs all the time. The newer V-specs, don't have the same problems as the older ones. The older ones are the ones, when you look at the underside of the crankcase, the rear-plate screw "bumps" don't run the length of the crankcase....

I've blown a brand new V-spec. It was broken in, took it out on its first day, did a few laps it flipped, engine raced, as something happened to the throttle servo, Engine was WFO and it popped the rod. Oh well....

Haven't had any problems with con-rods, crankcases, or bearings in the newer V-Specs...
