Buy some Flitz aluminum cleaner...it works wonders.

If it's got bad build up on it use a dremel with flitz and a polishing wheel.

Steel wool is abrasive, I would'nt use that too much. Semichrome polish works sweet with a cotton ball or a towel.

If its a Chrome pipe its easy to keep clean just wipe clean with a cloth after every run. Only takes a 1 min or so.
Now if its a polished pipe it nedds to be polished after every meet. Take the pipe off clean it with deagraser and than use some metal polish like Auto Soul or any other alloy polish and a lot of elbow grease.
Polish pipes are a pain to keep clean and sparkling. Since I went to a chrome pipe its a breeze. Hard coated pipes are easy too.

easy off oven cleaner on a chrome pipe is the s**t no polishing required

and what ever you do don't use any type of steel wool as scratches in chrome pipes don't polish out to well at all
