Default high idle at start-up

What are some possible causes of a high idle when the motor is cranked from being cold? I'm assuming it is probably an air leak from somewhere, as once the motor is up to temps the idle is normal, but I'm trying to pinpoint where the leak may be because I don't like using sealant unless absolutely necessary. any help is appreciated!

Never try to tune a cold engine. If it runs right once itís warm then you probably have it set right. Itís just idling high because itís cold. Also, air leaks tend to be more problematic once the engine is up to temp. Then it overheats and bogs.

It wouldnít hurt anything to seal up the carb and backplate though just as a precautionary measure. I seal new engines before I ever even fire them up.

I don't think it's bubbles in the lines...it does it for 2-3 warmup laps and maybe one hot lap, which is about how long it takes to bring the temps up over 200.
