Default Do these superchargers really work?

I tried to do a search and couldn't come up with much...

I was browsing Tower Hobbies and found this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNRM1&P=7

Having just purchased a XXX-NT... this caught my eye.

Are these things for real? Do they really add power?

Being someone who is into 1:1 cars, i cant see how the pulley is big enough to keep it from having belt slip... seems like it would have to be a lot wider and have teeth to keep up at the RPM's that these little motors turn..

Im sure people have asked about this before, so im sorry for the repost.

Thanks

Somethings do not work on these little engines simply because of size. You pointed out one of the reasons why these superchargers don't work as they should. The other problem is the fuel system. These devices are gimmicks that just lean out a motor and cause tuning problems. They're garbage.

Yeah i thought they were just a gimmick when i noticed them in a magazine a few years back... however... since Tower is what i consider to be a reputable shop... it made me wonder when i found that they were selling them.

tower hobbies sells them because they know that they can get the money, they know that people will buy them so they sell them.

Another reason they do not work is... and I am just quoting this from someone more knowledgeable with Nitro engines that has posted on this same question before, so I may screw this up...

At a certain point in the stroke the intake and exhaust ports are both open so that kind of kills the whole concept and mechanics behind a super charger.

The other thing one must always ask themselves is, "Have I seen this 'go-faster' type of product out on the racetrack winning a race?"

Sad fact is people keep buying them so they keep selling them.

I think this is just a basher gimmick... I would not imagine any racer with half a brain would try to use one of these, even at a club race. If you feel you need more power then.

A. Buy a better motor.
B. Learn to tune the one you got.
C. Go through your car/buggy/truck and try to figure out what components are robbing you of the performance you should be getting. Diff setup? Clutch engagement? Bad bearings? Bad plug?

I can only speak for the medium to small clay tracks we race on in florida but sometimes I find myself richening up my motor to take some of the power away. A properly tuned V-Spec in a buggy provides more than enough power for racing here.

Also... for new comers, Learning to drive is the most important. You can have all the power you want and then some but if you cannot control it then what good is it?

I am curious as well. I have been looking at them for a while now.

On a side-note the Go Pro series is about to add an "RC Hero" model to the line.

http://www.goprocamera.com/

We have done some testing with their "Motorsports Hero" model on some of our MX5 Cup cars with pretty good results. A 4GB SD card will hold a 45 minute race NO PROBLEM and the framerate/resolution is pretty good so I would imagine the RC Hero will be pretty damn nice - especially given the fact that it is an all-inclusive unit (camera holds the memory card and the battery).

One thing they told me they planned to do on the RC model is mount the lens on the side of the camera instead of in the front so that it could be mounted longways in between wing struts.
