I race a 4wd 1/10th truck at my local track, which does create contraversy, because most 1/10th vehicles are 2wd. 4wd is just faster and easier to drive hands down.

Check out CEN Racing's 1/10 4wd RTR Line. They are affordable, fast and great to learn the ropes with.

The GT2 or the losi are probably the best options you have. parts are mostly easy to fins and the stock motors are farely fast.

i gotta say 2wd are fun, hard to drive, but fun. i love it im very good at controlling it (os 18 tm) so it has a TON of low end and basicly like someone said its all in the throttle control thats how i control it. its an S-maxx, so i still have the TQ3 so to be able to control it i put it on 70/30. 70 percent throttle and 30 percent brake (the trigger moves forward to make it so you have to pull it back farther to get to WOT). it helps a lot because i like to gun it and it kind of holds me back from doing so, i dont spin out and i have a broad range of throttle control

get a 4wd

i found it not too hard to control my firestorm when i got it new. just start off slow on tarmac and work up to fast on dirt.
