do you mean the 4 screws holding the diff assembly together come out? I remember reading people with problems where these screws would back themselves out but you just need to locktite everything.

Still here but not running the M1 anymore

Got tired of the love/hate relationship with my M1
I think it just doesnt suit my driving style.

But... my last unfinished project was to find a way of over-driving the front end of the car like the Xray XB8 does. I thought it might've been the perfect option for settling the car down under v/slippery conditions and also removing the requirement of running thick rear diff oils.

Anyone want to give it a go?

I think K-Factory are looking into this too but it could be months away.

Good luck guys. I'll watch how the M8 goes but I'm not holding too much hope.

Regards
Lycan

I have run this mod. Overdrive to the front was probaby the best mod i did to the car. It actually gave a little more push coming into the corners and really PULLS the front on power coming out of a corner.

This mod doesnt give the rear a chance to come around on power as the front is pulling so hard. If you can imagine a front wheel drive car, it kind of acts like that but with more grip. Gas onroad racers will know what im talking about

I had informed Magic about the overdrive mod but nothing as yet...

Hi Ari,

Did you do this by running Xray drive train?

BM: Its a basic drive ratio change. Out of the box the XB8-EC runs a 40/12 diff ratio. Xray make an option part which lets you change to a 38/12 in the front.
This means the front end of the car now "overdrives" causing the car to pull out of the corners rather than the rear end pushing.

The M1 runs 43/13 front and rear so a 41t diff gear would be idea. Hard part is finding one.

I have also been in contact with Nick at TM about K-Factory making something. Doesnt sound too hopeful if Ari's has asked months before me

I had a gear custom made by a guy here in OZ. Before anyone asks i cant get any more No Xray parts on my car...

I guess its now up to KFactory if they want to produce it, i believe this is definatly a worthy modification. Unfortunatly it was 9 months ago when i had mentioned it...

Ari

Interesting idea on the overdrive.
I have a 39/12 gear set from my old caster buggy that does fit the M1.
Just never got around or motivated to try it out since the M1 diffs alway leaked.
Maybe an idea to play around with it now.

Hi Lycan, I feel your pain.

I like the way you and Ari think can certainly see the benefits.
I think I read somewhere that you used the front diff housing in the rear of the turbo is that correct? I'm presuming this will help mesh the gears better and not need the shims?

I must admit that I havent had any issues with my turbo. The car definitely has the potential. I have my setup now that the car performes very well. The rear end is still abit twitchy but one can drive around that. The car hasnt broken anything since the start.
The cars plus points is the fierce acceleration. I am running a Jammin JPX21 with a JP4 pipe and nothing catches me in the straight.
My mission was to get the M1 turbo to be as good as any other car box stock.
I really do not know if its worth going for the LX conversion.
The question is will it make the difference and settle down the rear. Else it becomes a off power car.

I had my first race with my TURBO and although my experience is very limited in off-road. I had no issues.
I did break the rear wing but then if you crash every jump....lol.

The rear is very stable. I lengthened the wheelbase by 6mm.
I think I need to do some work on the shock. Oils I mean. I have the LX shocks and towers and ran 45WT (Losi) all round. But I think I had hydraulic lock on them the way the car was bouncing up over the jumps.

Need to get out for another race with it.

hey menace, if it helps, I'm running 400 in the front, 350 in the rear (much more oils) 2x1.5mm pistons front and rear in my M8 (M1 turbo with LX shocks) and ride height is 29mm in the front and 31mm in the rear... I find this set up nice and plush in the rough but will handle jumps without too much drama!
