if taking the air filter off works for you then that fine. but i guess i never have been able to see the piston from there...

hmmm, maybe its cuz the engine wasnt mounted on the car, but im pretty sure if you shine a light straight down, and dont block the light while lookin in, you can see it.

hmmmm, i dont think i know exactly what you mean by glow plug hole, so i made a pic so we both understand.

red arrow is where i look down to see the piston

blue arrow is the "glow plug hole" the "top one" your talking about or what???

so you can look down there somehow and see the piston?? i tried doing it with the airfilter hole, i can see it fine, i just dont know what BDC is. i always thought the piston went up and down, but it looks like this one just does "barrel rolls"

What you see underneath the carb is the crankshaft. The piston is underneath the head, the "you" in your labeled picture below.

this may make it easier: BDC is half a revolution away from the hardest part of the turn. so turn the flywheel, when it gets really hard to turn, go half a revolution more and then its BDC
