Best Starter Buggy, HELP NEEDED
I have a friend who is wanting to buy a car in the next couple days. He is really good at video games but has never driven anything R/C. I look for him to figure it out quick if he drives like he does full size race cars.
So here is the question.. I showed him the ofna 7.5 and the price was definitley a selling point for a car he could use until he has decided that he likes r/c. I already informed him that he will need tires and a servo. How much is that car lacking rtr vs. a sportworks or other rtr. I know there are threads on this but im in a pinch for time and your help is very much appreciated.

Im not really sure if you are refering to the 9.5 violator, the hyper 8.5 or one of the hyper 7 series. pls clarify which kit your friend is planning to buy

Thanks for the catch... I was pointing him towards a hyper 7 TQ. The price is just astronomicly cheap! I figure that car with a good servo and tires will suit him to learn to drive for the first year, and he is already looking to upgrade after that if he takes a liking, but otherwise he isnt out alot. What radio options are there to be had with rtr?

Hyper 7 TQ rtr was my first nitro car and it is a great starting point. The only thing he'll need is a metal geared steering servo as the stock one is pretty crap.

I started off with a hyper7 Pro which is more or less similar to the TQ. I learned a lot from that car. Its a tank compared to a lot of other kits. Strong, reliable, good handling, good parts support and its cheap. Overall I think it is a great starter buggy.
For me, with any RTR the eletronics would be one of the first things to go. Good high torque servo for both throttle and steering then a decent FM radio would be great. In the end investing in electronics will save you from a lot of headaches. Check out the futaba 3pm Fasst or the airtronics mx-3 these are the budget radios but are using the spektrum technology if im not mistaken.

Start with the Hyper 7 - It is an incredible deal right now, and it still gets around the track pretty well. If he really enjoys racing, then he can step up to the 8.5. Some of the parts from the Hyper 7 will work on the 8.5 - not a whole lot, but some...
Stay away from the 9.5 (Any version) and the Ultra Comp (Any version) if he intends to race. These are fine and dandy for bashing, just not racing...

I would always take a peek at what your local shop is carrying. There is nothing more frustrating then having to wait for parts to arrive in the mail.

A Mugen MBX5 is a great starter buggy. Stay away from RTR (Ready To Replace) buggies. You'll spend more in the long run.
Nothing wrong with a Hyper 7 or Hyper 8 or 8.5, but if someone tries to sell you a 9.5 RUN AWAY!

Jammin X1 CR RTR the cr buggy is a very neutral handeling buggy.
you get almost everything you need in the box.
BIG PLUS ... You can put any of the PRO or FTE options on the car for later on down the road. the radio is ok and the motor is a power house. good durable starter and you can still do a club race with it if you want.
