Default Brand new motor binding....any sugestions?

I have a .12 Picco red dot that spun freely at bottom dead center until I tightend up the flywheel nut. Its a bump start engine. It feels like the flywheel pulls the crank agaist the main bearing. As soon as I loosen the nut and pop off the flywheel is spins freely again. Could it be defective? I have never had an engine bind like this when you tighten up the flywheel.

Any sugestions?

hi losi,

as jason said, put a shim or two on the crank before the collet and flywheel.

you want just a tinytinytiny bit of slop when you move the crank lateraly. i mean you could debate with someone if there is any movement....thats how little of slop you want...but you do want that little bit.

hope this helps.

I agree, shim the flywheel slightly. Most likely the flywheel is binding against the crankcase. I have personally never seen a crank tighten against the rear bearing causing binding.
