Default newbie Spektrum module and receiver help

How do I get the module reciever th work together. I know it has to do with the button on each one but not sure how.

Hold down the blue button on the turn on the car. Let go of the button and it will blink. Next hold down the button on the radio and turn it on while doing so. Hold the button 4 a few secs....it will blink and then both will become solid and it is linked...

While your turning on the transmitter, hold the trigger on full brake. That will set spectrums fail-safe to brake. (For gas cars)

ive got a Qstn, is the serial number located on the silver sticker on the back of the controller?? is it the ic or icc code?? just got my DX3 and have no idea.
