Need advice on choosing engine
My choices are: XTM457, LOSI 427. Any knowledge on which engine is actually longer lasting? Easier to tune? Most Power? I realize lots of variables can affect durability, as well as power, but for the most part, does either engine have an advantage over the other? It will be in a MBX5T.

The only engine I have had any experience with in your list is the XTM.
I put over 7 gallons on mine when I finally got rid of it. It is a GREAT engine for the money! |
i've heard good things about XTM engines too. nothing first hand though.

Those two engines are from the same family of SH engines. They are great engines. I have put 11 gallons on my Mach. A friend of mine has the 457 cause he found it on sale. I think he paid 125 so he thought he'd give it a try. He was very pleased. I was impressed. It has PLENTY of power. If you are considering these two engines you won't be disappointed. Don't know what you expect from an engine of this caliber though. Since my Mach has so much run time, it has become a back up, just in case something happens to my race engines. But also for practice I put this in my truggy for testing. I was happy with the tuning. It was easy for a noob like me.

We run the Mach/Losi 427 in our Truggy at the shop. It runs so well we never broke in the race motor we had for it. It will pull a gear like no bodys business and gets 10+ minutes of run time. Smoking engine.
Not sure about the XTM but I think if it is made by the same outfit then it will be very good. TEX :tire: |
the losi 427 engine is a good engine, but in that price range there is something even better...take a long hard look into the go tech .25 and you will be much happier...

I don't know anything about either one but I know that a V-Spec will beat both of them

my neighbors picked up 8s rtrs. the Losi 427 is quite a ripping motor. start and run pretty good. Fuel economy seems low though, but strong runners none the less. and at 150.00 cheap

I've ran both and I can definitely say that the 427 is made better than the 457. Not to mention longer lasting and easier to tune. Go for the 427.

Thanks for the help. I decided to go with the 427, would the jp3 be a good pipe? I have heard it cuts the top end quite a bit compared to the jp2, anyone ever run both? Or is there a better pipe to go with the 427?
