Carbon does no have any flex in it wich cuses it to crack easer than you would think.

What evidence would you provide in support of your claim?

FYI, Formula 1 teams have been using carbon-fiber suspension blades with built-in flex points in stead of mechanical hinge joints for several years now. You would do better to do your research before making such claims.

F1 is about money, they spend millions of dollars to build cars, then throw a car away if its a tenth too slow. apples and oranges

The cured properties of carbon-fiber, using identical weave, layup, epoxy and number of layers, will have the same cured properties in the hands of an R/C enthusiast as it will in the hands of an F1 engineer.

R/C enthusiasts will throw away or liquidate a perfectly good buggy/engine/radio just to get the latest equipment in the hopes that they might shave a tenth off their lap time. Sounds like the same thing to me.

Are you refering to the "flexures" used on suspension points? I believe they are titanium?

Also there are many diffferent ways to lay up carbon fibre, in regards to weave pattern, resin, etc. I don't believe that the same guys that design, engineer and build F1 composite pieces, are going to be the same guys that are designing and building carbon pieces for r/c shock towers, they would be very expensive shock towers!

FYI I work in the composite industry

Check out A-Main Hobbies, they may have them. I run the Vertago
carbonfiber shock towers on my CRT and have had no problems.
They have came away from some realy bad crashes without
any cracks or splintering. Remember to seal the edges with some
thin CA and they should last forever.

Some F1 teams have likely used titanium, but B.A.R (now Honda), McLaren and the Williams team used carbon through & through. An explanation provided by one of Williams engineers during a face-to-face discussion was that they had attempted a titanium/carbon hybrid, but that vibration and stresses were causing delamination at the point where the metal met the carbon, so they went with straight carbon. I was able to confirm this upon inspection of a broken suspension arm.

True, F1 teams use more twill & satin weaves, whereas most R/C components we see are plain weave, but the basics are still there. You can argue that the plain weave won't have the same strength as a satin or twill, but then, an R/C buggy won't be subjected to the same loads as a full-sized racing car.

With regards to your argument that F1 people don't design R/C stuff, Cecil Schumacher is proof that you're wrong: he was an F1 engineer that carried over his racing experience to the hobby industry. In fact, Schumacher's first ever 2wd buggy, the Top Cat, was probably the first ever commercially-available R/C car to adopt the inboard shocks/pushrod... Carried right over from Formula 1
