Default OS motors.Any answers for questions...

Hey I just purchased this motor on e-bay for 80 dollars, the chap I bought it from said it only has around a gallon and a half through it. Did I get a good deal?
Also he states it is an O.S. VZ .21 Is that what it is, because I've heard of OS VZB-V-spec or OS VZR v-spec. Is there any advice for this new motor that I will soon own. Thanks alot, eh?

It's a V-Spec. Kinda looks like someone stripped the anodizing off the head.

Yeah I guess but I won it already. So if I put in a new piston/sleeve combo it would bring back the punch ,technically right?

I would replace the rod too. A new piston, sleeve, and rod should make it perform like a new motor along as the carb and bearings are in good condition and the motor has no leaks.

Before you can determine whether your purchase was a good one or not, you'll have to take the motor and crack it open for inspection.

-Are the gaskets smooth and flexible, or are they chunked and in need of replacement? Any damaged gaskets can lead to air leaks and erratic performance.

-Can you turn over the flywheel easily or freely? This might tell you more about how much pinch there is, regardless of how "new" the engine was claimed to be.

-Have a look at the glow plug to determine whether the engine's been run too lean. Most likely not, but then, why would anyone sell a VZ-B with a single gallon through it for a mere $80?

-Does the top of the piston or button head show any signs of pitting?

-Check the conrod for slop. If there's any, replace it.

-Remove the piston and sleeve to inspect the latter, see if there might be any scratches from debris inhaled by the carb.

-Remove the bearings and clean them, watch for any roughness, or replace them entirely if it's warranted.

Once you do the above checkup, put the beast back together, install and fire it up. It's a meticulous process, I know, but the more care you devote to your mill, the longer and more reliably it will run

Looking at that second photo i could swear it has had a seized clutch bearing on the back of the clutch bell and scored the crank realy bad, i could be wrong but if the rear clutch bearing has slop in it when you re assemble it you up for a new crank or have to re hard chrome plate it or something.

it's a vspec. But the colour of the cooling head looks weird I've run mine just under 2 gallons and the color of the head is still blue. Try to run the engine and see if it holds the tune. it should idle well even when rich.
