carbon fiber pipes
well im wondering why more people dont race with carbon fiber pipes? i know they are alot lighter than alumunum pipes so why dont i see more at the tracks? dont tell me they break cause carbo fiber is very ridigd material. so i guess i need a REAL 100% FACTS on why they dont work as well i dont whant any bashing from people just saying they are junk but cant give proven facts on why im thinking ofdroping 75.00 on a vantage pipe so REAL answers would be great.
|
I dont think it has hardly anything to do with the material, I have heard of people who use the pipes and love them and well I have never heard of one breaking or anything, I think the reason why most people dont run them is because they buy what they have been told is the best pipe for the motor, for example if someone says what is the best pipe for this motor and someone says a 086 then they will get a 086, if someone said this vantage pipe then they would probably get the vantage pipe, but I dont think many people are going to sacrafice the way their engine runs to save a few ounces. But if this is the best performing pipe on a certain motor then that is what people will run. So basicialy what I am saying is the majority of people run the pipe that they run because it is what works best, not what its made out of.

ive heard alot of people say that carbon fiber doesnt disipate heat very well and i think that is totaly false no. 1 the manifold that goes from the engine to the pipe takes the magority of the heat the pipe just exits the spent gases and the design of the pipe itself will determin if its a torque or high rpm pipe. so basicaly what im getting from youre post is alot of people are closed minded enough to not try something new and only use what somebody else has told them to use? LOL! dont get me wrong i also use a 9886 pipe but just whanted to try something different

Hi Roscoe.
You'll be happy to know that I have a Vantage carbon fiber pipe on my 8ight. I can't say if it actually offers a significant improvement over a metal pipe because I don't compete and I'm still new to nitro, but Vantage claims that it does, and they have a bit of documentation pertaining to it on their website. For what it's worth, the carbon pipe does offer a unique feature in the way of sound, which I find absolutely awesome; not the same canny sound you get from metal. If anything, it'll make your nitro vehicle sound a little more F1-ish. |
Well I am not trying to say people are close minded, I am more of trying to say that more or less we will use what works, it is a hard thing to spend $80 on something you dont know what will happen with when you can spend around the same for something that has proven itself. But its not like they are made of some space age super material, there is only a little weight savings so its not like you are guaranteed a better pipe. The only advantage it has is its material, seeing that there hasnt been masses of people waiting in line to get one of these pipes personaly I will stick with what is proven, these have been out long enough for people to have tested them and I have never seen anyone actualy running one. but personaly (and it seems many will agree with me) I am not going to dump $80 for something that may or may not be better. I am not saying they are bad, I am just trying to say that they cant be amazing, or everybody would use them, if someone like RB or Novarossi came out with a CF pipe identical to one of there top selling pipes they would probably sell more of the CF pipes than the standard pipe. So I dont think that the fact these pipes are made of CF has any influence on why most run different pipes.

Dyno results of a Vantage carbon pipe and an RB 086:
http://www.vantageracing.com/site/v2-knowledge.html Two other positive features are the fact that your carbon pipe will outlast its metal equivalent. If you go to the bottom of the page, there's a video link with footage of one of the Vantage PR guys beat the living sh*t out of a metal pipe with the carbon pipe. Second, one less thing to burn your fingers on, cos the carbon-fiber stays cooler than metal :) |
I personaly like a metal because it seems to burn away a lot more of the residue left behind by the gas....and yes I have ran both type of pipes.Run a gallon through a CF and then through a metal and see witch one is cleaner inside..
There`s my thought.don`t know if it helps much And yes the vantage pipe performed great for what I needed it for |
captain america exactly, it stays cooler and will keep more heat in your engine increasing engine wear and temperatures.
No thanks ill pass on Carbon, Alloy is a much better conductor even if it is a little softer. |
The only reason I haven't bought a Vantage pipe is because the 1/8th buggy pipes don't have the cool reinforced stinger like some of their other pipes.
|
I just can't stand the way those pipes sound. It's like the exhaust is being ported out of a card board box. Sorry, just my .02 cents.

i have the Vantage buggy pipe on my Jammin CRT with the rtr engine on it, i don't know the model of pipe, it's a demo my LHS was sent and it got tossed my way to try out. he is not getting it back anytime soon. the engine runs great with that pipe, smoother response and better top end than stock, i know the stock jammin pipe is not worth the aluminium it was made from.
the heat it has after a ten minute run is quite high though, 375+ on average, but exhaust gases are 1000F or more comming out of the engine so the pipe is going to get hot. dont touch it! the seams from production are starting to leak and the front of the pipe developed a small hole, fixxed with some JB weld. i had to cut the melted body back from it too. after running this pipe for over a year now i would have to recommend this companies pipes as a choice when looking for a performance pipe. plus carbon fiber looks awesome in the sun! |

375f, yeah you think there's a tuning issue there? Could be why the laminated pipe is separating.........
