Default Nova Plus 21-5K

I just purchased one of these engines. Does anyone running one have any special tips for break in, plugs, fuel etc.? I'm running Byron's 30%, any special shimming needed?

Thanks

the stock shimming is fine for 30%....ive found that McCoy MC9 cold plugs are the best plugs for novarossi engines...as far as break in goes just make sure you heat the engine up to around 200F with a heat gun or atleast a hair dryer, cause novarossi's have tons of mechanical pinch....good luck and enjoy your new engine its a great mill....

Jason,

Also anyone tried a JP3 pipe with this engine? If so how was the performance and run time? I have a 9886 on order but I want to try my JP3 also.

I've been running this motor for about 3mo. now. Of all the pipes I've been through I've had the best luck with the Nova 9901 use a long header for moderate to high traction and medium header for loose conditions. In my 8ight if I'm really pushing hard it makes about 8 min. a little smoother on the throttle I' gotten as much as 9 min. between pits. IMHO, This is one of the best motors available out there today. I've yet to be on a track were I couldn't get enough bottom end out of it and the top end is all you'll likely ever need.

One thing though I've noticed the 9901 is a very quiet pipe which takes a little getting used to when tuning by sound.

how are you getting 9-10 minutes with a jp3 and running at only 220?

I have a jp3 on my 21-7 and get 7:30-8 min with the temp at 260.

Everyone I've talked to who runs a jp3 gets only decent mileage (7-8:30min) and agrees their mileage takes a dump from the previous pipe they were using. Except for v-specs, they still average 8-9min or a little longer.

most of it has to do with the trigger fingure....and you also said 21-7, the 21-5 is known for better run times than the 21-7...also i have my carb set to open just a lil past 3/4 open this makes a 30 sec. or more difference in run times per tank....also i may be running more fuel tubing and i run dual empty fuel filters all making a few more seconds here and there....
