Default About aLuminum air Filters

Hey, can anyone tell me about the advantages of using an aluminum air filter against a foam air filter??
Ive got a Hyper 8 and it comes with that filter instead of a foam filter.

Umm...last I checked air didn't go through aluminum...

There's gotta be some kind of porous element in there somewhere. Do you mean a paper or fiber element?

I'm assuming that's a mesh screen on top there. Underneath that should be some kind of filter element, a screen alone will do squat to protect the engine. Usually those "can" style housings use a round hockey-puck shaped foam element, but when you have some fancy aluminum housing you never know what they might have stuck in there.

There must be some way to open it...
