Truggy Motor .21 Vs .28 ?????
Which do you think is best for a truggy. The 21 or the 28. Pro's and con's.

Go with a .21, you get MUCH better fuel economy and most new .21s have all the power you will ever need.

I'm the minority in this argument. I like my 28's. Run time is a little shorter than the .21 and you don't get the major RPM's. On the other hand, I'm running a modded RB TM928 and loving life! Sort of like running a turbocharged injected Porsche with a good .21; vs a full blown Nitro Hemi with a 7-8 port 28.
Check with the guys at your track. Most people will run .21's .

I have just got an rb 928 and on Sunday gone gave it its first proper test.To say everyone at the track was shocked is an understatement.I am running it with the 2045 92mm pipe and i managed 12 minutes( yes 12 mins) from a losi 8t .I was gona be happy if i got 8 mins but 12 i thought was unreal.Another lad has the new t7 c6 and he managed only one minute more.
The reason i got all the running time is because you don't need to use full throttle as the engine has loads of torque and rpm up to half throttle, so basically thats all i used and was as quick down the straight as the c6 t7 but quicker out of the corners.
It just shows that just because the engine is a 28 it has more than enough grunt that full throttle was very seldom used so fuel economy was very high.
The only draw back i found with the engine is it is like an on off switch,,, nothing then all hell breaks lose at quarter throttle.

unless you are a pro level driver, or you take your racing really really serious, I would say go with a cheaper 28, if you can keep the truck on its wheels for 95% of the race, you will make up more than the difference in time an extra pit stop is going to take, especailly if you have a good pit guy, also it can put you on a different pit sequence than everyone else, which means pit lane is empty for you so you dont have to worry about hitting people or getting hit by other cars in pit lane, and your pit guy will have more room to move,
also I personally just like the way truggies drive better with a 28, I find they come out of corners better, then seem to jump different/better, IMO the power band just suits a truggy better, at least for the way I drive anyway, I've tried a couple 21's in mine, even modded ones, and I still always go back to my STS 28, or a LRP 28, especially for club racing where its just for fun anyway, but even for some big races too,

The new RB C6BB7T with a RB 2045 pipe is the way to go for the best blend of power and fuel economy. I've gained a position many times by only pitting once in a 15 minute main.

My brother and I have using the OS VZ B21 in CRT and his current ride, MBX5T Prospec. He is a top 3 runner on the dirt, Im more of a road guy hence he does better than me on dirt. So I am his pit/mechanic/setup guy. He knows squot about set up. He just gets on the drivers stand and races the thing.
He wants to take it to the next level and is after a new motor. Here in the West side of Oz the top guys all run RB's or the OS. Since we have only been able to race with the 28 for just over a month, there is only a couple running 28 at the moment.
I do see alot of pro's with the 28 and a couple of con's. As damo666 said, you dont need full throttle as the track here dont have long straights but the torque of the 28 would help with clearing tripples alot easier than the 21.
As for price, the 21 and 28 seem pritty much the some.

I use a .28 because it's half the price of a good .21 and has more bottom end power. I have never seen anyone win by being the fastest on a straight where the top end power of a .21 comes on. Regardless a $150 .28 is able to hold its own against a $300 .21.
Fuel economy, my LRP 28 gets 10 minutes plus on a 150cc tank. About the same as my V-Spec .21 in my buggy.

Yup, I mod motors and when we first brought out our modified Mach 427, you could almost hear people laughing at us. A Mach going up against all manner of expensive engines.
At its first race, down the backside of the front straight were a series of 4 jumps, our Mach consistently did it triple/single. While every other motor, RB Concept C6BB, Novarossi, Werks, O.S. Engines were doing it double/double. The Mach did this the entire 30 minute main.
Our driver finished 2nd in the truggy A-main with it after a bad start had him dead last almost a lap down. He finished a mere 6 seconds behind the winner...
A couple of weeks ago final points race, our Mach TQ'd and finished 1st and 2nd. This time beating out O.S. Speeds and all other manner of engines. (and yes there were sponsored drivers who were beaten. 1st place driver with our engine is sponsored as well by Mugen Seiki...)
My point is the extra grunt does help, as long as you know how to drive. Properly tuned at altitude we are getting almost 10 minutes out of a tank. Secondly, you don't need to spend 400 plus dollars for a winning engine. We charge 220 for a modd'ed motor...and we consistently finish on the podium....
Sorry if this sounds like an "ad" its not meant to be. Its just that we have lots of "test" time with various engines. We mod O.S. and other engines, but we wanted to prove that a solid performing relatively inexpensive motor can be made to run with the big boys...
