Default S7 engine temps

I just wanted to see what temps others are running their S7's at. Some guys at the track are running theirs between 265-275. I can't argue with their success, they have 10-12 gallons of fuel through a few of them. Mine seems to run at around 260 also. Everyone elses engines seem to run from 200-225. Anyone have input?

I have a S7 and it runs at 265 when racing. I'm running 30% and shimmed at 1.04. I find that most Novarossi based engines run fine at 260. My friends that have O.S for some reason they run bone cold(190-225). I find the compression on RB/Novarossi engines is greater and the pinch is more aggressive. I have about 15 Novarossi /RB engines. They all run in the 265 range. Everything sounds normal to me.

It's fine. I would just be worried if you dont have any smoke.

That's about right. The S7 I run usually wakes up around 240 on a normal day. I just use my temp gun to check for problems. If your engine is consistently running 250-260 and suddenly comes off the track at 290 then you start checking fuel lines, torn exhaust gaskets, etc...

As always look for good smoke comming out. I currently have three S7's and I rarely have to run them over 230. One of my S7's is the "europe" version which is very old but still operational. IMHO the S7 is one of the best motors you can by for an 1/8 scale car.

i agree for under 300 bucks it has awesome rip and has good life

I've only got alittle over a gallon through mine right now. Sometimes it still feels slugish, like it doesn't have the punch when I need it. I'm running a Mugen clutch set up with black shoes and 2 1.0 springs and 1 1.1. I guess I'll just keep tuning on it. Thanks for the info.

Run all three 1.1 springs with the Mugen black shoes (or 3 1.0's with the aluminium shoes), that will help & what pipe are you using. I've found the RB2020 with a 198 header is the best but if you want longer run time then the 2045 is better.

Right now I am running a JP-1 pipe. I haven't tried anything else on it. Thanks for the input on the clutch springs.

I've been looking at the RB2020 & RB2045. They both say they are for mid range. What is the difference between the pipes. Would I use the 198 manifold for both? How much longer run time does the 2020 give?

The 2045 will give longer run times than the 2020 buy a couple of minutes (depending on how you drive) but the 2020 makes that motor have power you would not expect.

I hear ya about the pipe(s) and the power they make. I have a S7II in my buggy now, and before i was just using the dinky stocker pipe that it came with. Well, I went and got the RB pipe suitably rated for this engine(per a tech at rb service facility), and got the one he reccomended, and i couldnt not believe the difference in power once i switched. Ive only got a little over a gallon so far on my s7II, and every time I run it, it just seems to keep on getting stronger and stronger. I like this engine and pipe quite a bit.

Right now I am getting about 7 minutes with the JP1 pipe. I would like to atleast keep that run time. Once my vacation is over I'm looking foward to getting a new pipe.
