Guys just leave the kid alone. We all know its impossible to reach that speed with his gearing / engine rpm. Just let him think whatever he wants. At that age he is going to anyway. As he gets older he will learn to accept advice and information from his elders

Oh and to answer your question about the head shim...if you take it out it will create higher compression. Generally if your running 30% you want to add, no subtract a .1mm head shim. Those engines are designed to run at a specific nitro %. Altering that % can actually be detrimental to performance, longevity, and tunability of your engine. So to compensate you add a shim.

This is like when guys start pluging in those G-Tech timers in their 1:1 cars and do a pass on the street and it tells them 12 seconds. Next thing you know their claiming they have a 12 second car. When they go to the track they cant break mid 13's. Maybe this kid will grow up to be one of those weenies.

Not trying to dissagree with you, but I feel I should point out. Very rarely is the nitro content what it says it is supposed to be on the bottle. One of the guys I race with owns a Research and Development company. He pulled samples from several bottles of fuel listed as 30% nitro(I don't want to say which company, because I use it alot and it works well for me) None of the fuel had 30% nitro, in fact, the numbers were all over the place. It's kinda hard to adjust by such a small degree and have consistant results when the fuel itself is a variable. I run that 30% fuel in my O.S. VG, without the additional shims and it works very well. I've even had people mistake the motor for much more powerful and expensive motors because it has an aftermarket head and is so fast.

As for the "Claimed" 60 mph, we all know it's highly unlikely, if not impossible. So maybe we should let this thread drift into oblivion, or let all the noobs and armchair mechanics argue over the logistics of an RTR 8th scale buggy doing 60 mph in near stock form...

Being a long time swimmer and coach I have probably used a stop watch more times than most do in there lifetime. Even with years of experience no one can get closer than .05 seconds CONSISTENTLY on a stop watch. Even with swimmers going no faster than a slow jog, reaction times just aren't quick enough for accurate times. Now take a 40+ mph buggy crossing a line; at 45 mph the et would be 1.5151 seconds. A .05 reaction on each end in a beneficial direction would be an extra .1 for an et of 1.4151. That would bring the mph up to 48.1 mph. And thats just one tenth of a second! At .2 seconds error that could jump to nearly 52 mph!!!

60 is just not happening. I'm sure that is what you measured, but the margin of error is just too wide to be valid.

R40- Sweet avatar! That follows my principles of passing lapped traffic, "Aim for them! They'll be somewhere else by the time you get there!"

Don't waste your time. No one really cares what the top speed of your buggy is. We only care about how fast our buggies get from one corner on the track to the next. Races aren't won on the straights but since you obviously don't race you wouldn't understand that.

i can tune just fine....i just doent make it a point to run 300F so that my car goes fast, and then be stupid enough to call it good tuning....
