Ive got the same EXTECH as above..its not bad, just priced a bit high. I also have a Axial pen one and its pretty easy to use, and accurate for the most part//I do like the lanyard that is supplied for it.

Can someone explain the water/spit method on the cooling head? What kind of results are you looking for? If you do not want to use spit, will a water dripper (like the kind for eye drops) work? How accurate are the results and is there any difference between water and spit?

Spit may have a slightly higher boiling point, but not much so either should work. Just like a temp gun, should be used as a backup to visual and audible clues as to how the engine is running.

It sets there and does nothing. Running cool, under 212 Degrees F. May need to lean it out a bit.

Slowing boils off. About right, at least in the ball park for most engines.

Jumps all around and flashes off. Most likely too hot.
