These motor do not like hot weather & humidity. SoFla weather is killing this thing. Very hard to keep temps under 250 without too rich boggy throttle. Running O'Donnells fuel 20%. Saw upwards of 308 today before shutting it down. Motor seem to lean out when getting hot. Also is mushy in the bottorm end torque area. Will be installing a 13 tooth bell and low end pipe. Mid pipe is OK, but everybody else on the track is killing this motor at local track. I also was told by local guys at track these motor don't last long. Next motor will be back to a Picco/Nova motor. Plus I see way too many used OS motors needing rebuilds or bearings in FS forums.

Low end is too lean. That's what I experienced this weekend with mine. Started richening up the low end and the torque increased and the temp stabilized.

Wow, I bet itll be a apple to orange's kind of change. I know the OS is smoother trough out the rev's. No one has a better carb than OS. As for power wise i don't really know. Someone out there chime in?

but how long does the OS last for most people, the hyper 8 averages 7-9 gallons for about the same price.

I'vee only got about 3 gallon's on my 2 VG's right now. 1 is modded and the other is stock. 8 to 9 gallons's will be rare for my VG's cause im pretty hard on them. So the 8 port might be your best bet.

just my thoughts on it .i have a vg and is a good motor but my novarossi 3 port is a lot better and just as easy to tune and 3 times the power for only 40 bucks more. and check your compression it sounds like you lost it from running to lean.

I wouldn't compare or don't even compare the O.S. VG to a Novarossi. First off, the VG is a ABN engine while the Novarossi is a ABC. Hands down, the Novarossi 3 port will outrun and outlast the O.S. VG. Everyone at my local track will tell you the VG doesn't last very long.
