id have to aggree with the comment about the Sport, my experience with the sport has been great, on the last race meet that i raced it and tuned it, it went great with a OS Speed 2060 exhaust system, good bottom and just a ball to use for the price $249AUD!

as for the Cobra, it goes like a rocket ship with the os speed 2060 and its just had 10tanks and still has pleanty of compression and im sure it has more to come in terms of performance, just so i dont forget, it is 2nd hand but fairly new, only 10tanks and when i first started it, its was really rich so i did about 1 1/2-2hrs out on the fuel mix and 1 1/2hrs on the air mixture needle and its running just in the middle now at a min. of 104c and max 110c which from what i know is pretty good.

10 tanks is any nothing! You got to run some tanks of fuel through the Cobra & Mamba to free it up. Mine has seen about 3/4 to 1 gallon and will lock up if your starter box is weak or not fully charged. I have to use a temp gun on these engines, because they can run hot and keep going. You really have to know the sound and power output to tell.
One thing though, does anyone know if the Cobra is a bit weaker on the bottom than the Mamba or is it the same with more top end?

If you are running a turbo head with a number 3 ontop then try running .5mm worth of shims for 25% and go from there. if its a 2 ontop of the head add more shims or less nitro. i don't know anything about the std heads and there compression ratio's.
out of the cobra and the mamba the cobra definately has more down low.

you mean 10tanks is nothing?, yea well i ran it today to do some fine tuneing and it seems to want to go harder but i guss better gearing will fix that but in general you only really need 13T clutch bell for most tracks except long flowing tracks like Furulund Raceway in (Lund) sweden.

To answer a few questions we have found in Australia that any less than .5mm shims in the Cobra with Turbo Button will cause detonation and plug failure with 25% Nitro or above. This is at @ sea level and 25-35C temps. The new X1 EVO is a totally different motor and seems to be fine with .3mm shims so far. Std Cobras are also fine with .3mm . All require Axe RT7 or R7 for best performance.

Also we have the X1 Motors and 2050 exhausts in stock now in Australia..

OK, this is good info. The Axe engines here all come with standard head buttons. I haven't found anyone selling them with the turbo button. I'm in the process of ordering a turbo button for the Mamba. Since the X1 EVO kit comes with the turbo button, I won't need it on my Cobra.

I have enough engines now. I got a worn used Mamba for my X1 upgrade, but I don't like how one of the head bolt thread feels.

ezveedub,

I see that the demand of used (But in good condition) AXE Motors have gone up as of lately.

There are two guys at my local track looking for used AXE motors too. Thats how I got my X1, built it for 1/2 the cost of a new one.

I'm looking into Mamba engines right now, as my Cobra doesn't have enough bottom end for me right. I prefer the Mamba and I'm seeing if the the X1 will give it better all around performance. The sleeve in the X1 looks like a large 5 port engine. I not sure about the Cobra X1, but it has the same style sleeve but for the longer stroke. I might end up parting out my Cobra and using that case instead.

As for the Mamba X1 upgrade, I might sending the parts back, as some Einstein thought it cool to pack the P/S/R set, turbo head button and crank in one bag!

I bought a Mamba a while back and mine didn't have much pinch right out of the box. It runs pretty well, but it gets really hot. The temp it wants to run at is usually about 270-290. I'm good at tuning and have tried to bring the temp down but it bogs if I richen it on the high or low speed needle.

I also had some tuning inconsitency, So I decided to seal the whole thing; backplate, carb neck, venturi, HSN, and little set screw that holds the carb venturi in. After this the tuning was more consistent, but it still wants to run hot. It's to the point where I have to keep replacing the exhaust gaskets because the heat is destroying them. I think maybe the lack of pinch and blow-by could be the reason for the high temps.

Anyway, it does run ok, idles well and no flameouts or fouling plugs. I actually turn really fast laps with it because it it doesn't put out so much power that I'm spinning the wheels. But overall I haven't been really impressed.

Has anyone else had high running temps from their mamba? Anyone else get one with hardly any pinch?
