Matrix TR makes it debut race at the Kentucky State RC Pro series. 2nd. Place Amain. Not bad for our first race with it. Round 1 was held at Deanos raceway in Elizabethtown KY. and their track has some fairly long straight ways. We were running the V Spec VZB motor and it seemed a little under powered for the track. Is there a smaller spur gear available for the TR??

I'm using the actual MSR body (not the proline one), and the shocks fit right in the lip at the back of the body, and the towers fit in the bump in the body where the towers go on the MSR truck, it doens't clear by much, and it has hit in some bigger crashes because you can see where its rubbed a bit, but its not bad, my dad's got a proline body so I'll see if it clears too,

If you need more top speed, try a 15 tooth. 14 is stock for the FRE and 13 is stock for the RTR. No other spur will fit.

Not enough power with a VZB.. HMmm.. I run a tired vzb and never over 220.. plenty of umff.. use 14 and 15 bells track depending.. largest track 220 ft straight.... I suppose I could use a bit more bottom but running the 21 gets me about 8-9 minutes .. or atleast two laps on everybody that needs to pit at 7 with there 28's... plus I can for sure get through a 15mn main.. on 1 pit.. where its close with the .28.. I also think it helps me to not have so much wheelspin.. just a thought..
I did however just buy a STS DT 21MKII wich may have a bit more power.. but I just wanted it.. : )
A P5 would have more bottom.. just as much top.. course depends on your budget Any mod motors.. just simply rip..

Have any of you guys used the air filter that came stock with the TR FRE kit?

How does it perform? Do you suggest any alternatives?

I just finished my build and went ahaead and installed the stock air filter unit, but would love to hear your feedback on it.

Oh, what is the black piece that I have circled in the photo? Some sort of cover?

Now all I have to do is build my new OFNA chrome top starter box and break in the LRP z.28 spec 3.

Thanks for your input.

its a mud gaurd for the filter, if you are running in the rain, or a really muddy track, it will help keep the filter from plugging up, I've never used it thgouh so I dont know how well it works,

Thanks for your input auto2,

I hope that wasn't sarcasm that I detected. I don't feel that I am asking an inappropriate or dumb question. I am just looking for the best way to protect my engine (they aren't cheap).

I appreciate everyone who is patient with the inexperienced. I have two other nitros (pretty much stock), but non that I have invested time, money, and effort into as I have the Matrix TR FRE. I hope to race my Matrix and just want the most out of my investment. Forums like these really help in learing the hobby/sport.

Thanks.

THERES NO NEED FOR THE MUD GAURD CAISE IF YOUR RUNNING IN THAT MUCH RAIN WERE IT WILL HIT THE FILTER YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR SERVOS FIRST
AND THE AIR FILTER IT SELF IS A GOOD FILTER IT WORKS JUST FINE

Thanks Robert,

I won't be using the rain/mud guard (I kinda figured that's what it was for). I never get any of my rc vehicles near water.
