How many shims for the turbo plug on 25% nitro? The parts sheet says 2 x 0.3mm and 1 x 0.1mm making a total of 0.7mm. Is this correct?

I might just leave it at 0.7mm then. Easier on the engine and I'm not looking for every single little bit of power.

Yea I had the same problem this weekend too, it would idle really high for a few seconds when I start it then kick down and idle really nice. Also would keep a high idle when Im going over jumps too.

Thanks!

I added a .004 shim and went to a #7 plug and it idles down perfect now. I had not added a shim at all before and I am running 30%

That's assuming it stays in one piece.

Talking My Nova's happy again!

Just came back inside after having a post rebuild run.

I changed:
  • Standard to Turbo underhead
  • #7 to #5 plug
  • Standard to Boca Bearings
  • 0.7mm to 0.6mm shims

I was having problems with not holding a tune, the front bearing had a leak, it would constantly flameout and was running way too hot. Now, it holds a tune, has a nice plume of smoke and still runs great and runs a lot cooler than before. Still fiddling with the tune but I'm so much happier now.

Can you tell I'm excited?!

Isn't a #5 plug quite a bit hotter?

Yep. Makes a difference though. Everyone I know running a plus 21 has switched to hotter plugs and they run a lot better.

Talking Hotter Plug

Yeah everyone I know is running either a #5 or a P3 OS plug in their plus21.
They are a newer version of the p5 which had the same problem of flaming out.
The hotter plug seems to be better to keep a nice tune and keep them running without flaming out.
I'm running a #5 also and it works well.
I just changed my rear bearing and bought a TKO from a guy on here which is pretty loose for a new bearing.
It has twice the play of a Novarossi bearing so i just bought a novarossi one onstead.
How do the Boca Steel ones go?
Anyone else tried any other good bearings with luck?

I've only put one tank through the new bearings but they seem quite nice. The front bearing doesnt leak and it only has the one outside seal. My original front bearing leaked quite a bit.

I'll let you know what the're like when i've got a couple of litres through them. These are the ones I got:

I've got in my arsenal a JP1, JP2 and the pipe that came with my Hyper 8.5 Pro.

What is the BEST pipe for the 21-5? I picked one up from a friend and would like to know the best, well-rounded pipe out there. And answers don't NEED to be from what I have...I won't mind buying a new pipe if it is better than what I have
