I tried the Alum unit. I didn't like it as I felt it effectively locked together. What I ended up doing was using the bottom half alum and top plastic.
As far as steering mods, there is one I can suggest. This is said to help alleviate bump steer as well as add steering. Take a look at your ackerman link. Use a Dremel to cut off the "ears" where the toe link originally attached to. Get a longer toe link. If I remember correctly, it needs to be at least 50mm long.Attach the toe link underneath where the ackerman attaches to the bell crank, using the stock TTR end/ball. Now, attach the hub end using the stock TTR end with a Traxxas ball. Using the Traxxas ball will eliminate rubbing on the wheel. I'll try and search SGrid, see if I can find some pics, as I know they were posted there. You might find some more info here if you take a look through this thread.

Thank's & Wow!.. I can totaly see it!
Much better than the added angle grief I created from local knowledge,
I had to stop the frt wheels from locking up.
Not going to give the sevo saver another thought,
Cost near $80.00 around here, thats 2Gall of fuel.
TTR unit great for 2 yrs, a little notchy around
ctr now so time for the ''spare''

This is probably the extra turn
in I was trying/need to get out of a long chassis.
I bet it makes the tunnell chassis turn like a jeep!

The only reason I changed my servo saver was because I landed bad on a jump and broke the stock plastic. My LHS had the Alum unit, but no plastic in stock so I bought that. I would highly recomend White Lightning. This can be found in a typical bicycle shop. It is a "go on wet, dry lube" and it also propels dirt. Very good stuff for moving plastic parts. Simply open up the SS and squirt a little on. I also used it for the pillow balls.
Kevin...Im not sure if the manual is located anywhere online, but
www.amainhobbies.com is probably the best place in the U.S to find TTR parts online.

The following info is courtesy of Mike Czech....
"First you need longer tie rods, I used the ST-1 ones but had to cut
them down, but I think Richard said the mayhem ones work perfect. u
need to use the balls that dont have a standoff on them. Cut off the
part of the slider with two holes. Mount one end of hte tie rod to the
bottom of the servo saver where the slider attaches to it, then mount
the other end on the top side of the knuckle. Next you will need a
longer servo horn for the extra throw. I used a Racers Edge four hole
one for futaba servo. On the end of the steering link that goes from
the servo horn to the servo saver, u must one of the standoffs instead
of the regular balls that attach to the upper servo saver arm. Now
your done and you have a ton more steering. If you want i will post
some pics if i get a chance tomorrow. "

Use Traxxas Pt # 5539 ball ends for this mod.Dremel the Ackerman like pictured, cutting the "ears" for the stock toe link location.

Hey Car Breaker,,Took me forever to dig-up this thread!

I'm Thrilled to get some responce. NitroOB4You totaly helped

thinking on the Aium' bellcrank.

This is my 3rd yr with my 1st 1/8 scale, 2nd Race season.
Hope to see this thread at the top, lot's. Most TTR racers around
here moved on to other cars, classes. I hope to use this site
to improve my set-up record skills,,learn some more, Work toward
an ''A-Main'' !!! That's a BIG Goal! But fun to take the time to try!

The New design of fuel tank I hope will end my cracking and cap issuse's

i am using the new style since I got my S3 (used). no problem at all.
at my local track (South San Francisco, CA AKA brisbane) I see people with truggy and buggy of big brand name and good engine. I also see people running RTR, but by far I still love me S3 + STS D28M combo. I can do the longest jump and have too much steering(oversteering) with my S3 using Ryan's setup. it is just amazing that the buggy is so reliable and cheap.

I feel sad ppl move to other car which is too new and have problems when S3 is so nice ( good handling, taugh) to have.

Regarding the fuel tank...if you need to, parish the though :P, the Mugen tank fits well. I used one when my stock busted...before the new TTR tanks were out.

I've got 2 of the New style on/order, as well as more shock cap'
and servo tray posts. Seem to flex enuff with the long chassis
to ruin them and Yes parish the thought,,,maybe an MBX body..
..if hot spooning a TTR body wont clear the linkage.

With the RBWS7 I don't like the side load on the carb or the linkage
bind under brake trying to run under, the servo arm. Is this worth the fuss?
Seem's like everything about the 3 TTR bodys I've gone thru was too small
Except the one that Caught Fire!!! Causing me to paint one in the pit's and
listen to a season of ''Wow you'r realy on Fire out there!!

Glad I scored RPM's X-TTR Factory Team Racers kit last year. Could/Might
put down Two car's soon. Realy glad I took Mike's advice at my LHS
Great Hobbies Ed. A.B when I wanted more than T-Maxx & LST.

I think I saw the steering mod on.. [what a Name Dropper!]
Scottmissfitts car, Maybe it was Inferno's?! Both Race around
Western Canada but Way South of Me. A-Main Guy's, Eh!
I'm sticking with the car that is teaching me it can be done.

Race Ya Later.

the problem that was found with the stock pistons was on a hard landing they would hydraulic lock for a bit and the shocks wouldn't move at all. the check balls were getting stuck in the holes by the oil and it took them a bit to come loose and sometimes they didn't. and for me i found the set-up that is on Ace Hobby Distributors site for Sexton worked very good in alot of different tracks and conditions. i was using mugen pistons in my shocks, dont remeber which ones though. and the flat chassis is a must have. but if your running the stock the two braces that go from the center diff to the chassis, i cut them to use as a washer were the bolts go into the center diff housing. that allowed just a bit more flex in the chassis and wasn't as likely to snap it. i ran my ttr for eight months like that and never had a chassis issue at all. but with the flat chassis, what a different car, it will actually carve a corner and offered alot more steering. but the guysa from Durango who placed in the proline UK race have a highly modified ttr. using the losi shocks and a few things they did to the chassis. but i think going with the losi shocks might be a must have upgrade also.
