Odd question: 550 Starter box Motors, compatibility between brands
So borrowing a buddies Kyosho starter box I noticed that one of his motors is not the same as the other, pinion isn't either. he mentioned he put the motor in while in a jam as the other motor died.
The other kyosho motor gave up the ghost too, so we are looking at different motor options.
One thing I wondered is that assuming still going with a 550 sized motor, it seems there are some motor only options out there for a good prices, but its not clear what is the pinion size you need (32ptich, etc).
anyway, how much compatibility is there for boxes out there? For Kyosho at least, anyone know what pinion pitch they use? (size is 13T)

Mostly like mod 1 pinion

Measure the distance between the peaks of the teeth on the belt. This will be your pitch. Chances are it's metric, so 5mm, 8mm something like that, but it might also be standard. You'll just have to measure. It's not the same as spur-gear pitch. Mod 1, 32p, 48p, etc does not apply.
550 motors are all the same. Once you find the pitch and belt width, you can buy new pulleys for the motors that use set screws and aren't pressed on like the cheap factory pinions, so you can put some other motors on.
