Midway through summer, time to start thinking about racing this fall, it's only ten weeks away!!
What I really want to get started talking about is what classes we will be running and who will be running what??
Our projected class lineup looks like this, Sportsman Touring, 17.5 Rubber Touring, 17.5 Foam Touring, 17.5 1/12th, GT10, Trans Am, TCS Mini and Junior Mini. That's eight classes available to run!!
This is kind of what I see for each class:
Sportsman Touring - Been consistently good numbers most of the time. A must for new and less experienced drivers.
17.5 Rubber Touring - Solid class, always with good numbers. This class will be 17.5 unless ALL drivers agree to stick with 13.5. In my opinion 17.5 is the way to go, a little slower and easier to drive for everyone. This also makes running the Sportsman drivers in this class easier if need be.
17.5 Foam Touring - Not much following for foam over the last two years. Anyone interested in running this fall??
17.5 1/12th Scale - Usually been good numbers, should stay steady. Will having to run NiMh and GT10 put a dent in the numbers?
GT10 - Getting started! Being able to run Lipos makes it appealing. Very Quick!! We'll see where it goes.
Trans Am - Will probably be the biggest class and should keep growing! A couple more months of testing this summer, FDR limits are being looked at to keep the increasing speeds in check?
TCS Mini - Should be strong again this fall. Trans Am has taken away some drivers but new driver should pick up the slack.
Junior Mini - Should be a blast again this fall. Junior winner runs in the TCS Mini main, could see a podium finish this year.
All these classes should be able to run as long as we get at least four cars on a regular basis.
I know it's early but some input now would be great. Please post your comments/opinions and what you are thinking about running to help me get things going easier in October.
Thanks,
Tim Ski

Fall 2008 Weber Motorsports Racing Program
Yeah boy! Weekend on-road racing, now we're talking! Since I have 12+ years of r/c racing to make up, I will be racing:
1. Rubber TC - Looking forward to graduating from The Sportsman Cup. I would be running this class right now on Wednesdays, but my electrics are bouncing between my T4 and 10.5 TC.
2. TCS Mini - Fun class. Not to be taken too seriously. The Ron Popeil "set it and forget it" class as I call it. I hope to sign my brother Chris, or some of my non-r/c friends to pilot the Weber Motorsports Mini to introduce them to this great hobby.
3. Vintage Trans-Am - Right now, my favorite class. I enjoy the 4wd touring car platforms coupled with the moderate speeds.
4. 1/12 scale - I just want to give these little things a try. They seemed to have a pretty good turn out last year. The group should decide if we run stock or superstock, as not to thin the class.
Ideally, I would run Foam TC over 1/12, just because I prefer the 4wd TC platform and lipo. Maybe the slower speeds in foam (17.5 vs last years 10.5) will pull more drivers. If so, count me in.
Counting down the days until ctober 5th.

I'd like to run 17.5 foam if for no other reason than to use up my foam tires. We tried getting a foam class going again a couple sessions ago on Wednesday nights. Got basically 3 guys but then if someone misses there is just 2. It just thinned out the rubber class so we went back so there were more to race with. Maybe Sundays it'll work.

I'm up for GT10, 21.5 Lipo once or twice a month. We can figure out/talk about FDR and make this an option as we get closer to fall. It sounds like 4wd off road MIGHT (not trying to make it happen, I want to see it keep going) fall apart with Matt leaving and Kevin trying to sell his, so I might throw my electrics in my GT10 sooner and do some testing for FDR.

I think the lipo option in GT10 is a must. We need to assume this is were evrything is heading, and with the Plex being a world class facility/track, we should help pave the path to brushless-lipo. I'm pretty sure Tim is planning this anyways. I also think you will see foam touring go away and be replaced by GT10. (Cheaper, easier, faster!)

GT10
so i haven't paid a whole lot of attention to the GT10 class rules in the past couple years but it looks like most of the cars that are coming out are setup for 4 cells. are you guys planning on running 4 cell 13.5 and 21.5 lipo together or what are you guys thinking. I'm really excited to see this class coming back, was my favorite 15 years ago.
