i would be interested in it i have been lookin for a TC class for my son that didnt involve a TT-01(i hate those cars!!)or put hin in with guys in the uper experience levels like super stock
the talk for this class next year is to use the usvta rules with one other motor battery option. black can motors with six cell/lipo but with a set fdr to match the speed of the other usvta motor combinations. this will allow the 5 to 6 cars that raced in 08 to be legal in 09. the black can option can be used in any chassis. once we get a couple of usvta cars out there we can figure out the fdr to use for the black cans. it could be as high as 8 to 1 and if this is still too fast we can go to silver cans.
not to throw wrench in there on ya frank...BUT...if you go over to the VTA thread they are discussng, currently or in the last 2 pages, how to make a TT-01 competitive with the rules as they are - I certainly understand wanting to make it easy for the previous vintage racers but the more we cloud the rules up the more difficult it will be to get this off and running.
IF ROAR gets involved this whole class could go down in flames in a hurry...just my 2 cents though.
I'm not concerned with the chassis. you can run an xray with a black can for all I care. as it stands there is no easy motor battery combo. 27 turn is great other then the maintainence but you must run nimh four cells.....yuck. 17.5 brushless is expensive and you again are into 4 cell nimh.....yuck again. 21.5 brushless, the combo they seem to be going to, is the best option in the long run but 250 bucks to get started is a bit much. if we have a very low fdr for the black cans it will be the cheapest. no need for good batteries or a good speed control because of the low current draw. I do think the fdr should be low enough to make the black cans slower then the usvta cars in a straight line so they will be at a slight disadvantage. also, we might get some of the tt01 from jonesboro from time to time.
As long as it is an option that is in addition - not replacement - I think it will work.
Just an FYI - novak is releasing the "Havoc" system - $139 BL system - I don't know what the motor options are but that is pretty cheap.
EDIT: it does appear that Novak has this on the list...Click here check out Charlies response near the bottom of the first page.
If we can figure out the range to make the black can work then I think it would make a good option - especially for those making a move from novice class racing.

Frank, Are you thinking this way because 5 of the six cars belong to you???? Lets just do 12th scale instead, that way you don't notice the difference when you put a 4 cell pack in there.
As long as the cars are as equal as possible, I don't see a problem with Franks motor/battery/FDR option. This should remain a fun inexpensive class, that is the spirit of the class.
If someone is too fast we can make run on three wheels !!!

USVTA is a grass roots movement - outside the typical confines of santioned races. ROARS involvement will lead to the "mainstreaming" of the class-drawing in the current TC racers that compete on the latest and greatest available. If the class goes ROAR - those racers will ultimately direct the future of the class.
The availibility or lack thereof to obtain "ROAR LEGAL" motors and ESC's for this class will drive it to the brink of being a TC class - that which it was not meant to be.
