Traxxas Stampede FDR Questions
My son has a Grave Digger Stampede and the standard Titan died last year. I just put a cheap Yeah Racing brushed motor in while I saved up for a brushless combo.
Standard gearing on the XL5 is 16T/90T - 15.30 FDR
A put a 17T brushed motor in and went 1 tooth lower (as that was the smallest I had) so went with a 15T pinion. (16.32 FDR) Motor temp was very high - 222F most times but knew there was going to be a brushless combo coming so just waited to see how long it will last.
Reading the VXL manual (my older son has a Ruslter VXL) and the Stampede VXL standard gearing is 19T/86T - 12.32 FDR.
I was under the conclusion that the faster the motor the higher the FDR (lower the gearing). How come the VXL runs a lower FDR than the XL5?
Note - only running on 2S lipo.
