There are single speed steel conversions, but that keeps the 2 speed with stock ratios so it is a bit more complex.

Inventor's a pain in the ass. I'd actually guess the expensive part is hobbing the gears. First, you have to cut a blank that is within one-thousandth, then you hob the teeth. It really is a complex setup.

Off topic-Plat, do you need a machinist and drafter, fresh from school, with a 131 IQ, outstanding spatial ability, and a complete understanding of everything mechanical?? I need a job.

What machinery do you run? I'm well versed in G-code, AutoCAD 2000lt, 2005 and 2006. I can send pics of things I've made, both R/C and non.

I use Autodesk Inventor mainly for part design and prototyping (Not to mention fooling around...SHHHH! ), but I am also familiar with AutoCAD 2000, AutoDesk Architectural (I don't know why...Taylor's the homebuilder, I can't even put up a wall! I'll staple myself to ... myself!), and AutoDesk Mechanical. Mainly we use Inventor, but we have the other programs too. I also used to use G-MAX and 3D Studio MAX 2 and 3D Studio MAX 5 for designing 3RD party car models for computer games. Look up my first website endevor called JAGSGAMES. I used to modify games like REVOLT, Gearhead Garage, NFS:HS and NFS3:HP. I also dabbled in Microsoft Flight Simulator but it was too damn hard to get right, so I stuck with modeling cars.

The computer I use is an AMD Athlon64 2800+ with 1GB DDR 3200 memory, running the K8 800T chipset. The ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB videocard has plenty of grunt to tackle any 3D renderings, as well as goof off work like Doom 3 and HLČ. Call Of Duty is also my specialty !

try the gorillamaxx single speed conversion, you end up with second gear only. Then find metal gears for the 3 gears left in the tranny and you should be good to go.

WARNING: MY OPINIONS
Get a Robinson slipper and steel spur.
Adjust new slipper properly.
Get a Top Flite prop balancer.
Balance tires.
Remove diffs.
Throw away diffs, saving ring gears.
Weld ring gears to Traxxas spools.
Install.
Get a helmet.
Wear helmet during testing.
You'll thank me.

you should get some on-road tires and test it on the street. some aluminum tape or just some ductape will be good belts for the tires.

I decided to tear it down and get to the bottom of what was going on.
Check this out! The center of the plastic spur got soooooo hot that it melted!
I have a Robinson slipper with a steel spur on the way.
This does have me worried about the integrity of my transmission though. Would the stock setup live if I just add some grease?

and also lock your tranny in second gear, shifting under power will nuke the tranny. im unsure how to do that but i figured id re-read the article about this twin hacker e-maxx this magazine built, came to 3 grand for this truck and they could only use 1 motor, 2 was just too much the front tires wouldnt stay on the ground. these motors are supposed to be equal to .40 nitro engines and this truck hit 43 mph. they also used robinson racing steel diff gears and mip cvd axels.....and alum hex wheel hubs in the drivetrain. hope i helped out.
