My LST XXL is a bit different, no aluminum to keep the already portly beast as light as possible. Still gotta be about 14lbs but the motor is down lower. My truck on 6s, if you nail it without a wheely bar I've had it do 3 backflips in rapid succession from a standing start. I cringed and was really scared for my diffs because I do mean rapid succession! Rolling backflips are also not too hard. That's unruly, but you get used to it. My 1518 on 5s powered 1/8 buggy probably helped my throttle control too. I can't imagine 8s though.
If I remember right your build was similar to this one but with RacerX and without the monoblock right? Either way I like the Maxx with a shorter tire, definitely under 6.5 inches with 6-6.25" being the max I'd go. It just looks better to my eye and to me the Maxx seems to like a bit less sidewall availible to flex. Maxx trucks do seem more sensitive to rotating mass as well, no sway bars doesn't help things either. I run Trenchers (not X) on my XXL and love them, but I don't think I'd like them on a Maxx.

I wanted the monster truck style and ride height. You got my build right With the extended wheelbase I think the taller tires look good. I am still debating on a half inch offset or not.. The truck has been extended with the Racer-X so I dont know what the best offset would be for handling. Im pretty sure you dont want a truck thats too wide but with the extension, Im not sure what to get.
I have installed a wheely bar since the build and it prevents back flips but doesnt really keep it from going over. My motor can has been absolutely destroyed from slamming the pavement... not really proud of the fact but I havent figured out a way to keep it from happening. The bodies get destroyed in no time and the posts dont fair much better. I am getting ready to reinforce a body with fiberglass and I was hoping a set of trenchers might help with making the wheelie bar a little more accessible due to their smaller diameter and also lower overall weight.
The best fix right now would probably be a low cg chassis but Im still on the fence about it.

When you say "extended with the RacerX" do you mean width or do you have swept back arms increasing wheelbase? I always thought RacerX was the same width as 2.5 and later Maxx trucks. I always ran 1/2 offsets on my Maxx trucks, slightly stiffer springs with the suspension raised up from level. Ultimate handling may not have been as good as arms level but more ground clearance and it was more predicatable and easier to slide around IMO.
You've got full offset Ofna wheels and tires now right? If you go with 1/2 offset the width at the outside edge of the tire should be close to what you have now. The tire will be narrower which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Problem is I don't know of any 1/2 offset 40 series wheels, they're all standard offset. Which leaves you running extended hex or going to a. 3.8 Traxxas bead wheel. Since you already have the extended wheelbase I don't think the 1/2 offset will look funny and I can't see it hurting handling.

I don't recommend 4s though, feels a kinda lazy. 5s starts to wake it up, making you take notice without being unruly. It's a nice setup for anyone afraid of going overboard.

Im running rc4wd MT Bajas on 1/2 offset rims (depserados I think). Yes, they are the swept backl arms. I am also running UE blue front, black rear springs. I need to pick another set of black springs for the front. The front just bites too hard on pavement.

Very nice job on the mount. For some reason the adjustment design shape reminded me of Kershaw, but yours looks like better material and much cleaner execution.
My 1717 on 4s being lazy comment is open for debate, it's an opinion on feel. Lazy may not be the right word though. The 1717 seems to have a flat power curve with the same massive power down low as up top. It's like a freight train (but in fast forward) constant and fairly predictable acceleration. The 1515 4s on the other hand feels more responsive and like it has a more pronounced midrange to top end rush of horsepower. On 5s this midrange to top end rush is more pronounced while the 1717 on 5s feels like a more responsive, even faster accelerating freight train that wheelies if you nail it while under 35mph or so. On 6s the power curve of the 1515 feels flatter but it's hard to tell as the sense of urgency is always there at this power level. The 1717 on 6s is anything but lazy, just heaps of power whenever you want it. That's my opinion and explanation for it.
