Tower always has awesome discount codes. It's not worth buying from there unless your spending over like $300 though. More expensive without discount codes.

He does seem pretty objective and unbiased I guess, and willing to thrash things without regard to what some company wants, but afaic he's just one guy on the internet running and testing his RC's among many. I really see no reason to invest any more trust in him than I would in anybody here.
Yes, I just linked it so he could see an actual overview and not take someones word for it. Looks like a cool truck to me but I'm good with my revo.

Get the truck that suits her experience level and you can afford. Don't buy her some 70 mph truck for a first. Not unless you secretly expect to inherit it. One of the HPI's or Traxxas RTR's would be fine. Plenty of replacement parts and knowledge out there. I would mention, I have two Traxxas's, but HPI is coming out with some nice stuff now.

OH, and to make things easier on you, get her an electric.

Cool

She has no experience what so ever.
Money is not really a issue.

unless you secretly expect to inherit it.
This is the whole idea

Id go Traxxas if it were me.. I bought the Rustler thinking ok, she can bash and play and it's not that fast, well that didn't last long, it's already been upgraded to brushless lol and when she decides shes bored with it, i will make a rocket but until then, i will leave it as is and know i can get parts easily and cheap. I keep getting these vibes that your buying yourself a nice brushless for your wife to play with on the rare occasions lol, has she seen any that she likes?

If you want a MT and if your leaning towards traxxas it's either an E-Revo or a Stampede IMO.

Now that we know it's truly not for her, i no longer suggest Traxxas.. If money isn't an issue then just pick a nice one and roll with it!

Are you stuck on 1/8 scale and MT or truggy? If not, there is a nicer assortment in the 1/10 stuff with other companys...

Ya, I kind of want to stay with 1/8 scale.
I just like their size.
She really wants a car, she just wants to run the parking lots.
And, I'm sure thats where 75% of our running will be.
No, really, she does
Kevin, fill me in on the Rival?

Well, having bought a used MGT 8.0 and TONS of parts to completely rebuild it back to new (minus the engine and trans), i can honestly say without a doubt, it's one of the easiest platforms to work on, the Losi LST platform and the MGT platform have been hands down the two easiest for me to wrench on.. Now that may not being saying much as i only own Losi, Associated, HPI and Traxxas MT's but thats my opinion. Plus for me, buying a Rival (or building one) would be smart for me, i already have enough parts to replace every single part on the Rival at least 3 times minus the power plant.. But i do like Associated, next to Losi, Associated is my favorite, it's just quality stuff..
