It always sucks when the body you're painting doesn't come out quite as planned. I've made quite a few 5 footers myself! Getting good masking tape is key, the stuff at home depot doesn't cut it.

Yea youre not going to hurt those MIP's, they're tough. If you have a Dremel tool, there's a weird looking corkscrew bit that's the perfect size (4mm) for enlarging the motor mount adjustment slot. Its meant for that kind of work, but it can grab and go in its own direction if you're not careful. I'd practice on a piece of scrap first of you're not used to it so you don't ruin the mount. Be sure to post pics and keep us updated!

Nice! I don't see a pinion yet, out of curiousity any idea what the minimum size you can run will be? How many cells you going to throw at it?

The ring and pinion are GONE! Time for some 1/8 diffs

You'd be surprised what the stock diffs can take with a bit of shimming and rolling on the throttle. But the Maxx trucks really need aluminum outer cases too.

If you're going to 1/8 diffs you should look into the FLM Hybrid/Combo bulks. Really makes a nice all in one solution for 2 weak areas. Plus Im pretty sure the diffs in the Combo bulks are already setup for running Traxxas (or aftermarket replacement) shafts/cvd's. Believe me you won't notice the extra heft with that motor!

I use these in my emaxx... cnc'd 1/8 scale diff cups with Hot Bodies heavy duty gears inside FLM Hybrid bulkheads and MIP shafts all around. Bombproof!
