Default savage two speed shift point

is it 3-1/4 turns for a two speed? i could only find in search 5turns for a third speed.thanx

Depends on how ur motor is tuned. Adjust it to shift when you want it to shift. It may take some time to get it where you want it. Turn left for earlier shift & right for later shift.

yeah i set it at 2-1/2 turns out from closed and it shifts great late,,,,,,,,,,,,

simple fix, loosen (counter clockwise) the set screw half a turn and try it again. If it is shifting then you are at least close.

thanx people,,,,,,,,,,,now i can pull it out and its legit,,,,, and put the 3 speed i have in it.should i replace the 44t plastic 1st gear now?even though thanx to you good people i got the trans that opens from the top so i can replace the plastic gear easily upon failure whats to say it won't destroy something else,,,,,,,it has a metal clutch holder at least.

I'd be amazed if you blew up any of your tranny gears.

Also, you cannot remove the middle shaft by just taking to my knowledge. Only the top shaft but my memory is a little fuzzy here.

man! i wonder if the plastic gear failed taking out the steel gear then chipping the others,,,,,,,i can't even find a steel first! hey dracy69 check out this new for the xl three piece trans! everything can be removed in house but the single center axle gear on the bottom!won it for $45 on ebay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yea I have a Savage X and a Savage 25 with all Savage X plastics...my memory must be playing tricks on me. I just yanked my truck apart completely to change the 3rd gear ratios and replace my clutches.

I think maybe I did it thinking I had to get to the bottom shaft...oh well

also, nice work on that tranny. The bashing is strong in this one

The plastic first gear stripped, then about 2 gallons later the whole thing let loose.
I'm running a donated 2 speed now...


Here's a bulletproof 3 speed setup.

there is alot of play it the single gear on the bottom shaft.curious if the play will be taken up when i install the center shafts,,,,,,,waiting for the xl dual disc brakes for this xl transmission.hopefully everything will jive in this .21.dig the all phillip screws.not a fan of the tiny allen screws that are not even grade10.
