Default Savage Flux HP Batteries

Hello Folks,

Just purchased a Savage Flux HP. I see the savage flux thread is almost up to 3,000 replies, so I didn't have the patience to search it. Just a quick question on the batteries you are using in your savage flux hp? Also, has anyone tried the Lifepo4? Not looking for debate between lipo vs lifepo4. Just wondering if you could give me the quick and dirty about what battery combination your using or has worked best for you?

Currently I'm thinking SMC sport max 4500 28c because I already have one I purchased from ampdraw for $55.00 for my rc10t4.

Again what combo do you use?

Thanks

Dorion

The SMC battery you have would be adequate if you want to buy a mate to it. But definitely don't go any smaller. 4500 * 28c is 126 amps which is pretty decent for that truck. I run the Turnigy 5200 30/40c's from Hobbyking and love them.

Lifes don't fit the stock boxes.

I run either a pr of 2S 5000 25C Neuenergy lipos (4S) or one 3S 5000mah 25C lipo and a 2S 5000mah 25C lipo (5S) both from Neuenergy.

Wow Duster,

Please forgive my ignorance, I'm a lone basher and don't get a chance to race or bash with anybody, so I don't know much. Did I read that right; sometimes you combine a 3s and 2s? Is that possible? Won't you damage something?

Hello John82601. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about turnigy, but I notice that they use bullet connectors. My charger only has a deans plug and, although my savage hasn't arrived yet, I think that uses deans to. Do you use an adapter?

Thanks

Avoid SMC, trust a guy who's been though an expensive lesson with them. Buy Turnigys at HK and either yourself or LHS cut off the bullet connectors and solder on Deans.

You want the constant amp output to be around 150amps to keep your lipos and ESC safe on the Flux, so those SMC's lipo won't put much more then 126 amps, which is borderline safe.

I've been using these 2S Turnigys with good luck so far on "Frostbyte II" and for the price, hard as hell to beat.

I also suggest doing some reading to prevent damaging your expensive Flux and getting the most out of it. Knowledge is power

I dont know about that statement. Many run SMC packs with no issues, including myself. Ive heard of hyperions going puff too. Does that mean no one should buy em? ive seen lots of hk packs come puffed, including a set you bought, so to recommend them is kinda odd as well. not raggin on ya, just want to make sure facts are straight.

Oh #%@!! What did I do to my SMC Lipos?

Bottom line: There for racers, not bashers

i agree with ya hyp, i just bought a 2s hyperion pack to match my 3s pack, i just dont like seeing a product get slammed for no reason. HK packs are good as well, ive used them, but they are hit and miss. dead cell here, puffed pack there.

I say if cash is no issue then Thunder Power or what i run, Hyperion. I have it set up so I can run a 4s,5s, or 6s combo. Just remember on whatever you get you want them to be identical in C rating and mah. Also some what close in charges/discharges. That way you can run a 2s and 3s for a total of 5s. If cash is an issue then I say go with my next choice which are the HobbyKing lipos. I have a pretty good amount building up and only have had 1 cell in a 3 cell pack go bad. That's out of around 30 packs now. With whatever packs you get just make sure they are atleast 125 amps cont. Anything less is pushing it with the demands of the esc. People have done it but why take the risk on a 100$+ speed controller.

hey mate. I just got my savage and i run it with a 2s team orion 45c 8000mah pack. It is awesome. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much power its unbelieveable and the runtimes are great. They are a bit pricey, in the $260 range, but batteries are one of the most important things in your car, so I reccomend you spend the extra and be safe and happy (and fast). They have deans and are a tight, but snug fit in the battery boxes which is good so they dont go shaking everywhere.

I'm using 2s 5000mah 40c Gens Ace hard cases in mine from hobbypartz.com http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-40c-50...se-direct.html

and 3s SPC Racing 5400mah 50c soft case from http://www.spcracing.com/

Both require a little bit of trimming to the boxes to get them to close without pinching but both batteries are awesome. SPC comes with Deans or Traxxas ( or whatever else you want if you ask them )

Gens Ace you'll have to solder your own after cutting the bullet connectors off.

Heard to many horror stories of Hobby Kings poor service, so I'll never try those batteries even though they fit and are a good price.

A lot of ESC's are capable of handling up to 6S LiPo/LiFePO4. The "S" designation means "Cells Wired in Series".

Combining a 2S and 3S via Serial Y-Harness just creates a 5-Cell "Pack". Nothing hazardous there.
