Default Which truck should I get?

I've decided I want to get a big truck for bashing around. I live in a new neighborhood with empty lots all around. I've never really looked into the monster trucks before so I'd like some help with what I should get. I want to be big like Clodbuster size. Which ones are out there? I want something with lots of hop ups available so I can mess around with it. I would prefer not to spend a ton out of the gate also. The new Traxxas Summit looks real cool, but a bit too expensive for me I think.

If I went with a Clodbuster would I get the regular kit or is the metal plated kit that much better? Wouldn't want to pay extra for the metal plated then get an after market chassis later anyhow.

Do you want an electric or nitro powered truck?

I recommend getting an E-Maxx or a T-Maxx. I don't think you can buy a better basher. And every hobby store that I know of carries Traxxas products so you won't have a hard time getting parts for it.

The E-Revo and Revo are another good option. HPI also offers the Savage in electric and nitro versions.

I would recommend that you stay away from the ClodBuster as a basher if you're only going to have one RC because it's an outdated design and will not have the performance anywhere near an E-Maxx/T-Maxx or any other modern day basher.

I have a special place in my heart for the clodbuster, it was the 1st real R/C I ever drove. That was like 20 years ago though.

If I was going to buy a MT right now though I'd go with the E-maxx (assuming you want electric). Tons of hop-ups and comes pre-waterproofed. I've never owned a traxxas but have heard great things about their durability.

I was leaning savage flux for awhile but initial cost is a huge deterrent. I don't think, with the clod buster in mind, that his budget permits what it would take to get a flux up and running.

With his budget in mind Im leaning emaxx like everyone else. He can run the brushed motors on NIMH and if he ever decides he wants more that truck can be made into a monster.

That being said If he does have some cash to throw around, I'm still not gonna say flux. Save a little money and pick up a LST roller, grab the dudes motor mount and single speed hub, and put in a brushless setup. Will come out cheaper than just buying a flux, and IMO its a much nicer truck. Super easy to work on, handles great right outta the box, and I swear to you I could beat this thing sillier than your savage and it'll still come back for more.

How does the E-Savage compare to the E-Maxx?

Emaxx is better. The esavage never really caught on, plus the parts support at your LHS wont be as good for it. Id def lean emaxx.

the savage is tougher and more solid than the e-maxx. The e-maxx is light and handles better.

i am pretty sure that you aren't gunna find many used converted savages. And the process of converting a nitro savage is pretty involved and expensive.

I just bought an eRevo for under $400 from tower hobbies. Its a good truck, I had a nitro one in the past.

Your budjet seems to be your deciding factor rather than exactly what truck to get.

Personally If I had to do it all over again I would buy the Brushless eRevo or Brushless Savage. They are both very good, and no true need to upgrade anything especially for just having fun with.

The Savage and Emax are more for having a good time with while the revo is more towards bashing and racing.

They all do good for what you want to do with them.

Keep in mind, in addition to the truck you buy, you will need two good batteries and a good battery charger - If your going to stay monster truck and 4 wheel drive.

If your looking to stay very inexpensive look at the Losi high roller. I have a friend with one, who likes it, it was under $200 and I am just posting is as a price point for you to look at.
